can someone tell me what a g vp does? I know they look at spread sheets all day and reports, watching the numbers.
They do store visits to find mistakes we are making. what else? Based on what I see, I could easily do that job.

The Hilton Honors point is spot on correct. They make the big bucks to identify the next initiative, maintain relationships and "lead the business". A few actually care and are involved (HT and DK for example). Many more are pompous jackasses that cultivate the growth of their ego and add zero value outside of s---ing up to a key member of upper management.
You didn't mention that they only stay at expensive hotels...they have to accumulate as many Hilton Honors points as possible for their family vacations. They also fly on the same airlines in order to accumulate mileage for free personal travel. They have lots of perks but they don't contribute much "value added" benefit to the company.
Sounds like a great job. No one knows what they do. Are they every laid off?
They are men and women near demi-god status whose job is to order their RMs to wag their fingers at the peons in the stores and push spreadsheets around. Also to listen to conference calls and chime in with a redundant, upbeat pep talk.
They also spend a great deal of time traveling, spending big $s on plane tickets, rental cars, and expensive meals, get big pay checks and bonuses, act important, generate a lot of busy work, and generate many emails, and pretend to tell those in the ivory tower what is happening in the 'field'...not a bad job if you're fortunate enough to have one.
S--- up $$$s that should go to those working the stores.
