At what point did Intel hit the Watered Down inflection point?

Do you lay the wreath at PSO's feet for the sale of X-Scale to Marvell? If I recall those times, there were many in the IA "Deep State" who despised Itanium as much as ARM. Heck even getting 64-bit was like pulling teeth.
Likewise, did Marvell become an industry titan from the acquisition?
Unfortunately, Intel enforces and reinforces a "square peg will fit into round hole" mentality. It works so long as your org executes. Once your technical advantages disappear however, you are toast.
I predict a breakup in the next 3-4 years to unlock shareholder value. It will be an agonizing grind until then while organization tensions make decision making grind to a halt.
Fonzi jumped the shark when intel under PSO sold XScale to Marvell here’s the root cause analysis on the record http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/15/01/19/how-intel-lost-the-mobile-chip-business-to-apples-ax-arm-application-processors
When they went all in onx86 and went into denial that mobile ARM was the next x86 driver
Such a HBR case study repeat, amazing the PSO and BK and BoD don’t see it.
