Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Michigan minimum wage increases to $9.25 1/1/2018

Should be interesting to see if this puts more pressure to close stores in michigan seeing that too many shoppers are using their “Points” to pay for their purchases..

when management starts telling you don’t Offer to check customers point balance, let the customer bring it up, something is brewing..

Why condition customers to free money on purchases in the first place if you don’t want them to use.. we all know answer to that..must be costing a lot

minimum wage increases do not kill healthy employers. Bad management does.

@rce I don't believe in minimum wage being a wage you can splur money. I think if you want to make good money either get a good education and find a good job, or keep looking around. If you are low on cash than work two jobs. People think its a good thing when minimum wage just goes up, but all it causes is prices go up and hours get cut. Surprised you could read me I do have some other investments I don't rely just at Sears is that at times I would just leave the job and still be fine. I am just waiting on getting a call for a job I applied, but taking forever either I get called or if things get ugly I am just leaving.

But yes I don't support this minimum wage increase (especially this excessive) I agree their should be increases, but not every year. Also companies should give increases to their loyal employees that have been in the company for years that I do believe (and work hard), but if you just graduate from HS and making already $11 bucks it deters people to go to school. As others have mentioned CA I can see lots of Sears/Kmarts closing to much for them to support.

As the original poster said, I live in CA and the wage going up every year in CA will pretty much kill Kmart in that state, I'll guarantee it.

@sfw Good to know that you consider $11 an hour to be an excessively high wage for California. You must have a trust fund to supplement your income. I quit Sears when my benefit rate dropped from $30 an hour to $27 an hour in an 8 month span cause the writing was clearly on the wall. And I don't live in a state with nearly the cost of living of California. Good for you!

@@PCk7NvJ You think thats bad 1/1/2018 Californias minimum wage is going to $11 dollars. Ever since our retarded governor enacted that law to have minimum wage be $15 by 2022 everything has been getting more expensive and company cut more hours. I don't even know, but at this rate I can expecting more stores closing in CA with minimum wage being so high.
