The entire IT department is leaving OKC. It's official, as of last Friday. There are other operations in Oklahoma City that are not currently affected. The future if the entire site is unclear at the moment. There are rumors of selling the building, which is the only one they own, then moving the remaining OKC operations to a new site. This is not confirmed, just rumors.

New CIO is a slash and burn merchant. He is here to cut the IT budget to the bone, collect a succession of bonuses, and then move on.

I hope that this isn't true for all my friends who still work there. As always, hope for the best, prepare for the worst. My personal experience was finding a job 2 months after being laid off last year. Paid 20%+ more than Seagate. Hours are roughly the same, I have more freedom, less micro managing, and yearly raises. Update your resumes, start networking, and prepare just in case.

Don't need proof when it was sent out in an email to everyone. Or when the plans are left up on a whiteboard for everyone to see. Look for a job now, predictions are set for a April/May closure.

True. OKC site is closing. All run and sustain functions transitioned to Shugart and data center operations will too. As soon as Mark Brewer retired, everyone should have taken that as an official notice to find another job. He was an advocate for IT in OKC, and without him, well it's a sh-- storm. Contractors will be hired to lift and shift operations overseas and they'll lay Americans off. If you have a H1B and work directly for the company, find a job now. There isn't much time. App teams are stopping development and moving their apps to Singapore systems. ERP will move to be close to the factories. Everything else will follow. Communication isn't going to happen. If you're expecting clarity, expect to be disappointed. Leadership doesn't exist anymore and they cannot and will not tell the truth. This is purely political and not about the money. Investing 1.8 billion dollars in the Toshiba deal means money isn't an issue. Executives don't care about how much it will cost to move to Shugart. It's happening, so put on your big boy pants or big girl pants and go apply for jobs. And stop being so damn sad all the time. Really. It'll probably be the best thing that ever happened to you, so freaking relax already. Find a better job, making more money at a company that appreciates you. Best wishes Seagate peeps.
