Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

What to think of rehiring?

We are rehiring and the division boss is showing our numbers are exceeding expectations but still don't want to give us a raise. I don't have a major in business and i do understand that our offshore market is still not recovered but why are we rehiring but no raises not even for the cost of living. I mean we are exceeding expectations.

And this fat guy always telling everyone he is so bisy and has a lot of work to do but everyone knows that he doesn't start working until 5:30 jerks off for a few hours and extends to last minute and leaves 15 minutes after the time he is supposed to clock out so he can get 6 extra hours on his paycheck. Idiot thinks boss doesn't know but it will catch up to him.

I just got rehired... with a 15% raise and promotion! I'm so excited for the opportunity to do more and that things are picking up!

Wish me luck!

Not a chance! They don't care about people just keeping the labor cost down. Move on .

They only want to reduce cost as much as they can, how else do they receive the bonuses they "deserve" il be pissed also if they want to rehire someone but not give us a raise. They shouldn't rehire and keep our 12 hour shifts if no raises. Yes I know about that big guy D... risking our 12 hours, sooner or later it will be his fault that we will get hours cut.

Judging by the fact that the original poster can't write a coherent, grammatically correct, sentence, I'd say you don't deserve a raise... in fact, I'd fire you for being illiterate.

I laugh at people who make one company their whole life. So NOV laid you off. Big deal! Find another job! NOV or any other company doesn't owe you a living. It is a job and then there wasn't work anymore. Go find a company that has work. Oh and also, work 2nd shift and use the 1st shift to look for work. Sitting home unemployed for months / years on end will just make one unemployable for any good jobs down the road. I have been through layoffs and have ALWAYS landed on my feet within months somewhere else by adopting this philosophy.

Your an ignorant fck. It cost me more money to start my 3/4 ton diesel than what a minimum wage job pays in a day, not to mention the fact the time lost searching for a real job. I did exaggerate some, I didn't blow through my retirement but I did blow through 100k, still have 200k left, I'm buying a real estate business, will be a millionaire in 5 years, then going to look back and laugh at you corporate stiffs making your management rich instead of yourselves. But I don't feel sorry for you not getting a raise, s--- it up you little whiny btch there are people with far worse problems on Houston.

I am sorry but there is no excuse to be unemployed for 2 years if you have your health and can work. Work at a Walmart or in a warehouse somewhere, anything but use up your savings. Hell I would go be a janitor if I had to. No way would I drain my savings. Oh, I have a bachelor's degree too. Ain't too proud to work a job "that is beneath me"if I had to. Currently am working in my field, but don't worry too much if I ever get laid off again. There are JOBS out there!

You are worried about a raise? I have been unemployed for 2 years now, burned through nearly all the retirement savings it's taken me 20 years to save. I have no retirement funds. Feel better?

Yea i know what u mean, wish i knew also. And i know who u are talking about, comes in at 4 and puts gloves on to make people think he has been busy while everyone else comes in at 5 and starts working around 5-5:30 and leaves late. SOB might get everyone to lose our good OT.
