Thread regarding Sears layoffs

A record breaking storm is headed for Florida

A record breaking storm is headed for Florida but Sears must stay open. A State of Emergency has been declared in all counties of Florida by Governor Scott but Sears wants to wait to see if we should close for a few days. God forbid someone has to put off an oil change for a week!

Watching the weather channel and mandatory closures of stores such as Publix grocery store are at 8pm tonight. So it sounds like all stores in the mandatory evacuation area will be closed tonight by 8pm.

Governor of Florida stating employers need to shut down to allow employees to prepare/evacuate.

I'll be amazed if most Sears and Kmarts will remain standing let alone be rebuilt after Irma comes and goes.

@2yba

Sometimes customer dont care at all for the associates they assume and demand service like its entitle basically like were their slaves at the moment they need help.

Though appreciate customers that appreciate and understand, those are the customers I go my way to help them as much as I can.

Sad how Sears will open on any day its like common sense if ite a big issue you have to think are we going to make enough profit and this horrible natural day?

What I have never understood about this is the fact that staying open amidst treacherous conditions must result in a loss of money. We've stayed open during some truly awful winter storms. The last one I remember, we stayed open all day, with all the lights on, and made $375 in sales. How's that worth it??

These are prime examples why I avoid Sears and Kmart. I now primarily do most of my shopping at businesses that value and take care of their associates. I hear a lot that the staff still makes minimum wage in most cases. We should all try to shopen at companies that are good to their associates. There are few and far between these days...food for thought.

Such a shame a company can do any of these to its workers. Shows you how greedy Eddie and the company swamps are. I bet if there were any of these conditions in Hoffman their fat asses would be at home and they would be off from work safe with their families.

Yes, Sears is clueless. I remember when the terrorists struck on 09/11 and everyone was home glued to their tvs. Our store had absolutely no business and the store associates were gathered about the wall of eyes in electronics as events unfolded. The idiot store manager hand wrote on large cardboard placards that "Your local Sears store stands ready and open to fulfill your needs during this time of crisis" and placed them on each entry door. No customers ever saw them. It was ridiculous and rather embarrassing.

Just one more situation to show everyone how much Kmart and Sears Holdings do not give a flying f--- about their associates. If the end of the world was coming tomorrow they would be open.

I was stuck in a hurricane and we were told to stay open. State of emergency and told to stay open. What few associates I had started walking out due to concern of making it home. Still told to stay open. We close under no conditions. F--- Sears and Kmart.

I don't know about your stores but we weren't penalized for not showing up during situations like this.

Our town had flooded in most parts and we stayed open. The mall we are located in avoided the flood by maybe eight inches but nobody was put driving to go shop (the rest of the mall was closed). We had no generators and a very limited supply of shop vacs and no flashlights. I will never forget: we made $19 that day. Guy came in for a discharge hose to a sump pump, that was all.

I remember that very well as I worked open to close that day. I was the only one able to come in that day, besides a manager and another sales associate, as we all lived nearby. Still, our own homes were at risk for flooding. The district managers did not want to close the store unless water started coming through the doors. We were expected by the store manager, per the higher ups, to cone in.

There are posts on Pebble regarding different natural disasters playing out and Sears being open. Blizzards, tornadoes, you name it--unless it destroys the store, Sears is open. Absolute insanity.

Same thing happened when hurricane Mathew hit. Even after mandatory evacuations my market leader asked that we remained open... They do not care about the families being affected as long as they can sell some chainsaws and a few batteries. The city was shut down and people were leaving but Sears was still open with nothing to sell.

Having retired 25 years ago, with 30 years of service, I will tell you, Sears has always been a place for "DB's" (d---beats) to hang out. No matter the day, the time or, the weather, the "DB's"' will come. They mope, hands in pockets, from department to department, item to item, asking lots of questions and never, NEVER, buy anything. If the doors are not locked, they will come.
