Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I've been through several layoffs at companies where I was sure I'd spend many years. I can't agree more that you really do start to notice the negative things that you just swept under the rug, or chalked up to being "The Nike Way" of doing business and treating workers. It's like getting out of an abusive relationship in that you realize how much you let the culture wear you down over the years, that you should have gotten out a lot sooner, and the fear that your best years are probably behind you. The good news is that more opportunities will come if you make yourself open to them and deal with any chips Nike may have left on your shoulder.

Thanks for your post. Any employee caught up in this terrible bloodbath caused by Trevor Edwards and his Council of Fools on JM4 will appreciate knowing that there is hope out there for those of us tossed in the trash by people we thought valued our contributions at Nike. How unseemly the campus expansion seems as HR drones dismiss the very people that helped pay for this construction/art project.

Wow that is super inspirational, thank you for sharing! I think a lot of Nike's talent will be looking at other companies in the area after this experience. I am very interested in knowing about other innovative companies that are fun to work for and have integrity.

Good points - every experience is unique, this worked for you. In my case, after 28 years with Nike I would not have problems if I was to stay with Nike for 5 more years (until retirement) - things did not pan out and that's a bummer...

I was laid off last summer and to be honest it was the best day of my work life. I was not happy working at Nike.... too much stress and long, long hours. I did work with a great group who worked hard and had integrity, that is why I lasted for 5+ years. I took a few months to regroup, took a class to update my resume and started networking. Within 6 months I had a better job, better pay, better location, better vacation and best of all better hours. I have a life and I'm so happy.

I thank Nike for the experience because I'm sure I got my new position because of my experience with the Swoosh. I'm thankful for the time there and thankful I have a bigger network of hard working colleagues.

I wish everyone laid of this round and future rounds the best of luck. You will land on your feet and I bet your life will be better when you do.
