you just negotiate your vacation time with your manager, totally unrelated to years of service.
work 1 month, take off 2 months, if all agrees.
work 25 years, maybe no time off.
who knows? no one.
oh, this sounds good.

If I have 3-4 weeks of accrued vacation, can I take it all at once so I can get on the flex policy?
"Be careful on that, zcq, as there may be a use-it-or-lose-it expiry date on accrued time after the flexible vacation policy is rolled out. CSC had one."
They can't do that in CA. Google search:
California law considers accrued vacation to be a form of wages that have already been earned by the employee. Among other things, this means that accrued vacation cannot expire and must be paid out to an employee upon termination or separation from the employer. The same rules apply to PTO.
I basically tell my manager what days I want for the next year at the end of the current year. If I don't have exact dates, I make them up. I just get my desired number of hours approved up front and then I change it as I go during the year.
You don't have 5 weeks anymore. It is whatever you negotiate with your manager.
Can someone dumb this down for me. What is the new policy exactly?
If in the US and currently have 5 weeks vacation based upon years of service (former HPE). What now?
But UNLIMITED VACATION ! Woo hoo! Slip your sup a $100 bill and GOOD to go...
There is no accrued vacation in the USA, that has been changed for months now.
(Former CSC employee). If you have a good relationship with your manager, it can be a positive change. However, the way policy is written, your manager has the authority to deny if the workload is not covered. This benefits DXC. If you're layed off they don't have to pay your accrued vacation
That doesn’t apply in the state of California. Accrued vacation is treated as earned wages and it is illegal to zero out or reset accrued vacation. The only way of getting vacation liability off the company books is what they’re doing now - making employees draw hours down before the new policy is in place. Even then it seems shady and feels like subterfuge to avoid paying earned wages. Unfortunately I doubt it would ever be challenged because an employee has to sue and there are few of them left in California
State pay out laws will only get paid time for accrued vacation for this years accrual. Starting next year no set vacation hours = NO accrued vacation = no payout. Yes you are losing money if you "banked" weeks in the past. Including those hourly people who banked any PTO. Take your time off now people - every hour you can get.
"I won't be using any of my vacation time until I separate, and will have it all paid out."

Really s---s if that is true. Vacation is essential. with 30 years you would get 5 weeks. Now the slaves have to depend on under 30 yea rold managers to provide vacation to a seasoned well deserved employee.
Employees feel valued when they are allowed time off with pay – which contributes to employee engagement and retention. Appears that WILL Fall off.
Employees can use their bank of hours whenever they like (with manager approval) and for whatever reason they choose. Controlled employees now.
Employees who have paid time off benefits have the advantage of getting refreshed by getting away from the work environment. Refreshed. They WANT YOU to leave hahahahaha.
Flexible paid time off programs allow employees to choose when to take time off. CONTROL
When employees have flexibility with time off, they are less likely to call in unexpectedly, allowing for more consistent coverage of responsibilities. More sick and downtime now.
Paid time off benefits is part of a total compensation strategy and can be used to attract “difficult to recruit” employees. You get work from home so really you can go anywhere anytime right
Paid time off benefits make employees feel empowered to make decisions about personal needs. Empowered BS is like merit raises total BS. Goodluck
Comp time is done this way, up to a managers discretion. Some employeees get a lot of time off this way and some get none, depending on who their manager is. This vacation scheme has the potential to be just as messed up.
CSC has had this policy for a year. CSC people please share your experience with this.
Lol. Is there no-end to DXC's turning of the thumb-screws?
They just gained an employee who won't take any vacation. Sounds like a win for them.
And with the just announced California (and I'm sure other states) policy that you need to draw down your vacation before you can use the flexible hours, we're being "cheated" out of 7 weeks of pay if we were long timers at the cap.
That was the final nail in the coffin for me. I won't be using any of my vacation time until I separate, and will have it all paid out.
