Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel out of latest iPhone

Apple will use xmm7480 and Qualcomm x12 @ full 600Mbps in iPhone 7 refresh. IPhone 8 will use Qualcomm X16 solely with 1Gbps capability. This is due to complaint that AT&T + T-Mobile are spending billions on "5G" 4x4 MIMO whilst biggest data phone is stuck at low throughput.

What do you mean by DELIVER ?

The work split between the sites is orthogonal to what you claim.

@1ubr sure I'll tell you.

Dresden contributed core IP for 7160->7480.

San Diego delivered 7260 to market.

Sofia Antipolis delivered 7360 and Apple.

Munich got all these sites closed and now can't deliver 7560.

Again what gas Munich done? We know you are full of sh--. We work with you remember. Just politicians.

@1pgv I'll turn that around: Tell me which other site contributed anything of value? The Indians with their constant drama and infighting, constantly delivering complete crap that then has to be fixed and cleaned up in Germany? The Qualcomm rejects who nobody at Q is actually missing and who constantly try to redefine the word "chaos"? The ultra-micromanaged Austin guys who won't do any work without having daily 90-minute meetingsth their manager where they are told what they have to do?

@1tjn ok tell me one thing Munich has contributed by itself. Nothing!

@1bzi:

"You'd be surprised how little work can be done by 4000 Germans in a year."

The main reason is that there are not even half of them. Go and double check if you don't believe me.

@1zxf That quote from PSO about declining the iPhone application processor is complete nonsense. He only started talking about that after Steve Jobs died, so he cannot contradict him anymore. It is an example of retroactive wishful thinking. There were no negotiations. Period.

They kept the great IA core. You'd be surprised how little work can be done by 4000 Germans in a year.

@ wyl "Don't know if fake news or not. I wouldn't be surprised at al if true, though. XMM 7560 is delayed and buggy as fck."

did they switch the processor core on 7560, or did they bail out on that too?

@wef. I think Intel turned down the request from Apple and declined to design a processor specifically for the first Iphone.

Intel makes modems for $12 and settles for $10 then boasts revenues are up.

Intel never declined on an iPhone application processor. Who made up that nonsense now? Intel had no processor that could have driven a smartphone in 2005 when the specs were being nailed down, so how would Intel decline to sell a product they didn't have and never could have had?

All iPods used ARM processors, and the iPhone development was a continuation of that. Nothing else than ARM was ever considered.

Apple has never been about the latest greatest but the complete package, if you only knew the price Apple got from Intel on the modem, ain't no wonder they took it.

And to think Intel declined on the Aps processor a decade ago, what if Intel hadn't had the three stooges CRB, PSO and the clown BK, Intel today would be more than just a declining z86 company struggling at past leader of Moore but instead a 100 billion dollar company combination of TSMC combined with Intel.

But we got BK, what other lying and stupid clown would publicly say 10nm is going well or wasted his breadth on charging bowls, drones, and wearables?

@rxq why would icdg be gone. Intel never know how many modems Apple will buy or what products they will be used in. Intel just spends billions in R&D and hopes Apple will buy a few. Last year it was 50m this year it is 8m.
