Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Oil coming back

Itsgoing to come back big. It will be demand driven. Recent cuts in investments in new capacity by the industry will make it impossible to meet the demand. Oil will sky rocket. 100..150.. 200.. You name it. Chevron stock will be in 200s. Position yoursef folks. Dont get left out.

I'm not sure that people who are laid off or may be soon are going to appreciate this sort of sarcasm:

"Everything listed that uses petroleum, can be made with the Pascagoula Refinery by itself and then some."

I take it that someone working in any O&G or related profession has more sense than that.

The annual average global oil demand has indeed risen by about a million barrels per day for the last 30 years. From OPEC.org:

"Historically, annual average world oil demand has risen from 21.4 million barrels/day in 1960 to 62.9m, 76.5m and 89.9m b/d in 1980, 2000 and 2013, respectively. It is currently projected to average 91.0m b/d in 2014 and 108.5m b/d in 2035."

If all cars were electric, how do you think most electricity is produced? By burning natural gas, oil, or coal. A small fraction is hydro, nuclear, wind, or solar.

However, the percentage of electric cars in the US is now about 0.6% and globally is about 0.2%. Global oil demand has increased by about a million barrels per day for the past 30 years. So it will take many, many years of very high electric car growth rates to even halt the growth rate of oil demand, much less to actually decrease global oil demand. That along with the real limitations of electric cars means the oil business will continue to be around. The oil business is safe for the next 100 years at least.

Everything listed that uses petroleum, can be made with the Pascagoula Refinery by itself and then some. Cars are what makes the Oil &Gas companies money, not the lube oil. Lube oil will still be needed for by products, but it won't offset the car usage.

Imo, there will be one more round of oil boom before the electric vehicles truly take hold. Too early to say good bye to black gold.

You must have your head buried in the "sand" if you think the oil commodity is going to change. Shell CEO said low prices are here forever. Even the oil companies believe the future will be electric vehicles, over 100 million by 2035. Truthfully, with Tesla, there will be more then 100 million cars on the road before 2035. Volva will be selling only electric/hybrid cars, the CEO of Shell stated he sold his diesel powered car and bought electric. Times are now changing, the question is, will we be like Kmart, Blockbuster, Sears, and others who did' or wouldn't change or will we start transitioning to other forms of alternative fuel?

Conventional oil is dead in the water when you can get lots of shale oil at much lower cost. Where's the logic to invest heavily in deep water projects when ROI is much better with fracking. It's all about money 'n nothin else.

Don't get too comfortable with "oil coming back". It has gone up as of late because the US Dollar has been down. Once the Dollar strengthens again sorry, the pendulum will swing in the opposite direction for oil.

2lry - I just read your post on being "intellectual pygmies". Its good that you have come out with this and we all support you, no need to be embarrassed. Just to assist you on the education comment, the world is filled with educated extroverted idiots and some companies insist on employing them. A monkey in silk is a monkey no less.
