Engineer I 18 months out of school and was given the boot. Director told me it was due to the "position being eliminated". Looks like I'll be on the pay roll through September and then given a severance after that. Blessing in disguise perhaps. Wouldn't mind getting a new job in the next couple months and banking the rest! :)

Sorry to hear of your job loss, it was gigantic crappy day at NRM again! It looks like Seagate is spinning around the drain due to a stunning lack of vision at the top. We have had ten or more years to come up with alternatives and what have we got? Best of luck to all of those put out of work, keep your heads up and may the grass be greener.
Consider the layoff as a blessing. Not only can you now claim you have "experience" (no one hires brand new but 3-Gate), but you will now be able to go to a decent company that will give you a reasonable chance to climb the ladder by merit (instead of by 'flock of a feather') and getting booted later, stalling your employment growth potential.
The number I heard at NRM is 40
NRM is in Bloomington and Edina (it is a huge building and crosses the city boundary) Minnesota.
Pay attention to the package. The severance will be taxed at over 32%
How many are been given the boot at the Normandale site??
Best of luck to you. Pay attention to the competitive and financial health of the companies you apply to.
Where is NRM site?
