So, anybody else thinks that this whole promo video is the bestest of best ideas ever? Hey folks, we will be laying off a bunch of you really soon, but here, look at what a happy family Seagate is! Joy! Let's all hold hands and sing kumbaya! Who in the world thought this would be a good idea?

"I don't think the people who created the video knew there were going to be layoffs."
Disagree with that.... Everyone has known that a RIF was coming - for months it has been common knowledge. And certainly site management has known the details of the RIF, and they were involved in the release of this video.
Of course it goes without saying that they might not have realized how bad it makes them look to time things like this - they are not exactly intelligent.
I don't think the people who created the video knew there were going to be layoffs.
The younger engineers have largely already bailed out from what I can see after we spent a huge investment of time and effort training them. That's exactly right. They saw how Seagate was treating long time employees. Seagate wanted a dynamic fresh young influx that didn't care as much about crappy health benefits. They would take low pay and insulting low raises for awhile in exchange for filling the blank space on the resume. They got the non-loyal here today gone tomorrow workforce they wanted. When they leave they don't ever want to come back to Seagate either.
Employee video was number one at box office. It was better than Wonder Woman! It received great survey scores from the critics. I heard a script for the sequel is being drafted with a focus on what happened to the people six months after appearing in the video.
That video was a low blow. Pretty cold-blooded, showing that to a bunch of people about to get fired.
Keep it up, STX. All those young employees that you covet so much are going to get the hell out of here ASAP, as they watch the f-ed up way that you treat people. I for one am encouraging them to do just that. Meanwhile, older folks wanting a package will work less hard, as there is no incentive to do otherwise.
Absolutely the stupidest management on the planet. They totally deserve to have the company implode on them. Unfortunately this will also hurt a lot of good people that in good faith have given so many years to this place.
Musical Chair is a nice game

We enjoyed it as children and it is the same game in the HDD industry. Run in a circle, around fewer and fewer chairs.
