Under CRB any manager who had an open req had to fill that opening by hiring a current intel employee (including an employee in the redeployment pool) unless CRB personally authorize that manager to hire an outsider - something he only did when the position required specialized knowledge not already available from within the company. I think that says it all about Craig's character.
All of the older Intel leaders where extremely technical and decorated. It's how a tech company should be led.
Intel is falling into the same trap many other u.s. tech company have fallen. Run by people with an MBA , less technical ability, and a lot of PowerPoint. How can you drive innovation if you aren't technical grounded? Look at what happened to Motorola. Look at HP. Look at IBM. These companies is don't innovate...they crunch numbers, PowerPoint enigineer, and keep wall street analysts happy with share buybacks.
BK is from San Jose state. He's just a me too guy. No real idea of innovation. Just a follower. Me too..let's try LTE modem...no wait...let's try Wearables...no wait...me too let's try IOT....no wait Mee too. Let's try 5G...no wait me too. Let's try Autonomous driving.....no wait ...me too.... Let's try AI...this isn't technical leadership...this is demonstrating "I have no freaking idea how to lead, so let's do what the latest hottest buzzwords say we should be doing, even if we have no clue"
And don't forget, CRB's salary when he retired at Intel was ~$600K. Adjusted for inflation that is about $750k in today's dollars. Compared to BK's $1.1M salary.......
He was an honorable man. Getting rare at intel.

OP. Stop whining. Just because some people can negotiate a good compensation package better than you doesn't mean they should get what they were promised. Sounds to me you should spend less time wasting it here whining, and more time doing things to get you promoted either at Intel or elsewhere.
And if you now if whine you can't get promoted because you are white, well then you should find the equivalent of Jesse Jackson for white people so you can't get white people affirmative action.
CRB was always approachable, would walk down to the cafe and get his lunch tray like everyone else.
I will always love his remarks at the AG memorial, when he looked over at Board Chair AB and basically said, "Don't screw this up!"
Craig Barrett has alway been and shall be an upstanding Professional. Nothing but the best / kind words to a great CEO. Glad, I had the pleasure working with in Arizona. Basis Charter School is a reflection of who he is. My hat is off to CRB, God Bless your retirement!
