I saw this on another post and it reminded me of something that happened to me by the FTDR manager in security. Paul was a terrible manager that would lie so he looked good. He got me fired, so yes I'm still bitter all this time later, but that guy asks you for updates in the one on one every two weeks. Of coarse you have to tell him, then his responses, no matter how ridiculous and terrible they were, he called that direction. Then he would down grade your skill, and say he had to give you too much direction, so you don't deserve your job. If he only knew how bad his guidance is he would laugh at himself. Just a mean bitter old man that beats up others so they look worse than him so he can keep his job. Backstabber, liar, he hates women speaking unless spoken too first. Wearing his ragety old clothes with a terrible haircut. You can tell when he's lying or doesn't know what he's talking about because he says "well anyway" every ten seconds. Like a dishonesty terretts syndrome. So glad to not be working at Intel if he's still there. He ruined my career a few years back. He destroys people that look to be building up to manager level because he fears that they will replace him. He's got some paranoid schizophrenia thing going on.

Our manager here in the US started to do daily status reporting meetings that take up to one hour and called them "Scrum meetings" to make it look like we were doing agile. Just imagine the cost of having 10+ engineers in unproductive one-hour meetings every single day!! Problem is that his boss is just as much of a micromanager, or else that guy would have gotten fired already.
Worst micromanager I have ever encountered. And Cormac wonders why we aren't productive.
So many managers only real skill is working at Intel. They're professionals at playing the Intel game for themselves. It's a full-time job: building the network, choosing the right cronies, one-on-ones in the JF cafe. All of it.
Updates with my manager always gave me the impression that he was going to steal and claim credit for good news and keep set-backs and bad news to use against me later.

OP, Intel is full of this type of manager. Their goal is to s--- $$ as much as they can from Intel without doing any actual work.
