I thought Altera was the next best thing to sliced bread. What happened?

I was with Altera before the acquisition and am still happy being part of Intel. No layoffs in PSG and pay is still excellent compared to industry. Just riding the wave until they kick me out.

Instead it is the employees that feel the burden of these huge strategic mistake!
You confirmed my suspicions. Altera employees went laughing all the way to the bank leaving Intel high and dry. Same story as any other acquisition. They need to fire all the idiots in the acquisition groups criss crossing around the globe wasting $$
Since leaving Intel, my new position involves specifying and integrating FPGA solutions. I can tell you first hand from a customers perspective that Altera has become a non-option since Intel acquired it. Remember when Altera was supposed to be Intel's first foundry customer? That was when Intel's process technology truly was 3-4 years ahead of the industry.

Since the Xilinx has pulled ahead while Altera has struggled to bring leadership products on line, wonder why🤔
and these idiots laid off skilled veterans to clear $16b for the acquisition. Unbeleivable
Alters was bad for awhile before intel bought it. The skilled people had left even before the announcement of acquisition. You didn't see how many grad8-10 opening me in altera group back in 2015? They didnt have the experienced people to deliver what intel wanted lol
two big issues I've heard of ... PSG (formerly Altera) has a perceived disadvantage in SW enabling vs Xilinx (its 'just easier' to use Xilinx products), and PSG has 'roadmap issues' - either not enough LUTs/KLEs, too high power, or too expensive vs competition. Marketing types would say their roadmap has seams so wide you can drive a truck through them ...
