Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

People that are out at LC in Colorado have been pretty quiet about the trip on social media, when in years past they were posting pictures every second of the trip. Can't imagine why they are so quiet. LOL

Also- to the posters below-- I personally know someone that was not originally "the list" to go because they didn't meet the requirements, but their manager sent it back and made sure their name was added. So, this trip is most certainly not awarded on merit. There is a reason 80% of the same people go year over year. Get your head out of the ground if you don't realize that. J-O-K-E.

I'm legit sorry for what you've experienced at Pearson. No one likes to hear about someone with talent and success not being recognized or rewarded properly. That's a shame and I hope things improve for you. Honestly. In my little world, we deal with an unbelievable environment defined by a complete lack of support for both customer and salesperson. It's extremely frustrating after so many years advocating for our customers. But I hear you. Completely. I'm not a cheerleader and I'm not brainwashed. I'm someone with a family and enough chips in the game to realize that I'm in a relatively good spot after so many years. I respect your opinions and genuinely wish this situation were different for employees who perform year and year out. If you're making goal at the rate you've described, you should have no problem finding a better fit. Again, best of luck.

Again. That's my point. I have NO clue who hit the top 10% bc we never saw rankings. What I do know is that I hit the criteria for years to be eligible. Understand? They will not provide a list of rankings. I don't want to see "my" ranking. I want to see the rankings for the entire Salesforce in black and white - like we USED to and SHOULD get. That's the point of sales is to rank yourself amongst your peers. And every other sales organization provides this info- except Pearson. That's the only way anyone knows where they stand. So your GM giving you "your" ranking is complete BS.

There is no consistency. Some get to go who had base relief and others are told they can't if they got base relief. Which I never even heard that "rule" until 2 years ago out of nowhere bc it is not in writing. What is for one is not for all and that's not right and it's why the good people are jumping ship left and right. It's what has ruined the culture.

I glad you feel you are paid well - I don't see how. Other similar companies payouts are double/triple what Pearson offers. And don't get me started on their jacked up calculations that are never correct. I know I am grossly underpaid and it's why I will be leaving- along with a lot of other good, legacy people. I looked around at the NSM and realized it was a completely new group of people than 5-6 years ago and there is a reason for that. The turnover has been insane. You clearly bleed Pearson - I just hope they have your back as much as you do theirs bc I guarantee they don't.

Honey? haha. If you didn't meet the 10%, you DIDN'T meet the criteria. It's not difficult to figure out. And you don't need to see "Rankings" - you just need to see where you rank. That's easy to get from a GM. Congratulations on hitting goal five years in a row. That's a great accomplishment for sure. If you've hit your goal five years in a row that should be part of the criteria, imo. That's arguably more difficult than 6 of 8. It's impressive for sure, and you should be proud. I'm not privy to the sales people who didn't meet the criteria and find it hard to believe that RB would allow people to attend who don't deserve it - not in her DNA.

No this is the OP. Honey - I've made/exceeded my goal 5 years in a row (with 0 base relief ever might I add) and I DO meet the criteria. You're completely missing the point - people are going that DIDNT meet the criteria.

I'm not mad I'm not going if I'm genuinely not in the top 10% and that's just how it all shakes out in an honest ranking. I did all I could - Hit goal 5 years in a row in the worst climate this industry has ever been in- so I'm VERY proud of my accomplishments. I am (and many many more reps are) mad that people are going that DID NOT MEET THE CRITERIA. I don't know how else to spell that out for you. This has nothing to do with "me" not going.

I agree with the OP. Same thing happening in my region. There are some real head scratchers going. But they are also the chosen ones so that's about the only thing that adds up correctly. There is nothing transparent about LC and the rankings are never released to our group either, and we have all asked for them.

If you've hit your goal every year and been here long enough to make it 6 out of 8 years and made goal in the last two years, you'd be going on the trip. Or if you've hit your goal 3 out of 3 years or 3 out of 4 years and made the Top 10%, you'd be going on the trip. If you've met any of those criteria, are you saying you'd decline the trip? Is that what you're saying?

Or are you saying that you haven't been good enough to make those numbers and you're too sensitive to deal with it and too lazy or not good enough at your job to do so? I'll take the latter for $500, Alex.

As for being a "lifer" - not sure about that, but I make good money here, I'm treated well, I work hard and accomplish some pretty great things (I'm not a traditional rep, btw). There are absolutely plenty of things to question and I can't say I'm thrilled with the direction and leadership over the past several years. But I'll continue to work, keep making a great living, keep going on trips if I earn them and do it all with a smile on my face. Best of luck to you.

When the DM, RM, and SVP of Sales all tell you they aren't releasing rankings- 4 years in a row- there isn't anyone else to go to- and if they were so transparent and honest about it- why don't they send out the rankings when LC is announced to the Salesforce like alllllll the previous SVPs did. We all know why. And there is no way the same people make it year after year. Again- a person who hasn't made goal in 4 years is magically on the list this year. Also know several reps who have even admitted they don't know how they are on the list. You've done nothing here but completely validate my point. Glad you love the trip and are a chosen one!

Trust me- I am getting out of here. I'll be done with all the fake awards, fake LCs and fake upper, immature management soon enough - it's nothing but toxic here - Can't wait! Have fun being a Pearson lifer. Hope you make it through the 3,000 person layoff ;)

Didn't say "revenue holding" - I posted "holding on revenue" - which means I've held onto my existing base and grown it every year. As for your snowflake comment - I'm not the one b1tching and moaning on a website about how miserable I am. If you're so unhappy, find another job. Perhaps one that has reading comprehension training.

And you asked for the rankings? And didn't get them? I suspect every time a customer tells you no, you take that as the final answer too? If you would have pushed for the rankings I'm sure you would have gotten them. Maybe that's why you're so unhappy - performers realize there are kinks in the chain but keep performing regardless.

LOL. I've asked for them 3 years in a row. Even emailed the ex VP of sales for them and he said they quit releasing them because it just "caused issues". Last time they sent out rankings in an email to everyone was summer 2012 when old leadership was still in charge. Everything hanged Jan 2013. Still have no clue what you mean by "Top 10% of revenue holdings" 😂

No cheerleading here - believe me. I've got plenty of issues with the company. My beef with the OP is that you're making a serious generalization about people who make up LC. As for the rankings, I see them every year because I ask for them. Maybe you should do the same - or perhaps you're scared of what they might reveal.

The amount of self-promotion by the Pearson cheerleaders makes the rest of us nauseous. The person posting below couldn't stand that we didn't know they had been a goal-earner for a decade and in the Top 10% of revenue holdings (whatever that means).

Funny- how do you know you're top 10% when they won't release rankings? Also- I know for a fact someone that hasn't hit their goal in 4 years is going for the 8th time in a row this year. Explain that?

And a Haltiwanger award winner who is supposed to go as long as they hit goal, is now being told they can't go because they received base relief so it doesnt count, but then another rep who got a ton of base relief for a lost adoption 3 years in a row IS going. Please explain that as well.

And no sour grapes. I wouldn't want to go on a trip with that group if I was paid $ to go. It's simply just another example of how bad the culture is at Pearson.

I'm one of those people that "seems to make it every year" and have made goal every year for well over a decade and have maintained a top 10% holding on revenue and growth every year other than one, when I didn't make it. How have you performed? You sound like someone with a serious case of sour grapes.

Where is the location and what are the dates of PLC?

There isn't one manager that understands the word "accountability" at Pearson.

Think about it- how is your manager held accountable?? Who keeps up with the DM and RM worktrips and evaluates how they do on campus and as managers. They are solely evaluated on their numbers, not how they work with or treat their team. My manager has been turned into HR 5 times the past year, and what has happened.? Nothing. They just deny it all.

I think the bigger slap in the face is when they show pics of the trip at sales meetings. They have senior managers who have never closed a sale making senseless toasts and reps who have never made goal teeing it off on an exotic golf course. The whole trip funded by the company at large costs while layoffs are going on. It's demoralizing and if management thinks it's motivation, they are completely clueless. It's great for that new rookie out of college but for the veteran sales rep who continuously pounds the campus pavement, yet never gets to go, it's a punch to the gut. Reps should ask for accountability from management when they make goal consistently but never get to go.

Exactly. It's insane what has been allowed to happen to this company. Completely unethical- a class action law suit waiting to happen.

I've never seen so many people in upper management ranks that literally have no business being beyond a DM or even rep position.

I used to get "rankings"/"revenue reports" from my management team all the time. The DMs numbers would be different from the RMs, and the RMs would be different from the GMs, which would be different from the VP of sales...none of which would gel with what was being reported in our sales systems. Leadership Council is no different than how Pearson pays out its bonuses/commissions...they reward who they want, how they want, when they want.

It's why I'm leaving lol.
