IBM takes out full-page ads, sends top execs to lobby against bathroom bill

"IBM will also send 20 employees, including top executives like Senior Vice President for Human Resources Diane Gherson and Chief Diversity Officer Lindsay-Rae McIntyre, to the Capitol on Tuesday to express their opposition to the bills in person."

So, not looking to focus on the political aspects at all, but just simply the timing of this darkening of the sky with out-of-state C-Suite Executives, VP's, and the like: Tuesday also just happens to be the very same day 2Q Results are being announced. Coincidence or a carefully calculated action to create a diversion (in this case, just so happens to be a politically-related one) for what apparently are going to be some pretty atrocious Results?

IBM leads technology firms pushing back on Texas bathroom legislation --

http://thehill.com/homenews/342897-ibm-leads-technology-firms-pushing-back-on-texas-bathroom-legislation

"Her letter came the same day 20 IBM executives descended on the state Capitol in Austin to push lawmakers to reject the bill."

So Big Blew has plenty of funds to pay for mucky-muck Exec.'s (minus those who are local but guessing that can't be more than ~5-7) and those of similar ilk to fly-in on the corporate jets or privately chartered flights, as no way they flew coach on a commercial carrier. And not mention their hotel, meal, and local transportation expenses for their stay. Maybe they weren't aware of 2Q results, oh wait, but I'm sure they were. . .

5wnj, this is a layoff rumor site. Try googling an answer to your second question.

@-qcv: So good to have confirmation that IBM did no similar show of force in NC when that state legislature was debating a similar topic. So indeed illustrates that this show of force in TX is a smokescreen to try to shift media focus away from the 2Q17 Results announcement.

Also want to point out that there are tight cost restrictions on travel and expenses but yet allowing a significant number of C-Suite/VP folks to travel smacks of outright hypocrisy and is truly disgusting.

Definitely a diversionary tactic--this is not a matter that IBM has traditionally gotten involved in--ie , in North Carolina they did nothing over the bathroom issues. This is a desperate PR move. Just like putting the new IBM Z launch out on Monday, July 17 when customers and the press are on vacation. Its just IBM chest beating, full of sound & fury a tale told by a management team of idiots signifying nothing :)
