Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

In sales no layoff just a huge number

The targets for customers are so high in our unit that people have given up going after deals. Morale is terrible. Bringing in the biggest deal wont get you there and just means you will be punished next quarter

Sales don't get layoffs they get a huge target and made to leave.

Customers and reps with the highest numbers are unliked because they make it even bigger or buy the same big deal they did last year every year (4 years warranty? Cloud? hello?). But teams with tiny numbers are paid huge bonuses by small laptops orders. We reward reps with small numbers and punish reps with the most risk.

So glad I left when I did!! I was one of those that started with a smaller numbers and then given bigger and bigger numbers each quarter. Luckily for me I booked some great sells where they couldn't let me go.

But I had my suspicions about phone activity was an excuse for them to let me go. I improved in that area and then suddenly they are checking when I go to lunch and when I get back. One day my manager showed his cards in front of the team and made the comment "I see your a few minutes late from lunch". It was very gratifying seeing his face in front of the team when I looked at the time and responded with "well I'm actually 15 minutes early from lunch." I'm not the brown nosing type at all and that's the only way Dell operates. I always knew I was in the doghouse but F them, I was hired to take care of the customers not kids a$$!!

Long story short, they explored every angle to find away to fire me. But when I actually had a customer with a real issue which required me to ask for help my manager would ask me to "send a calendar invite for a one on one" either that afternoon or the next day late in the afternoon, past my customers deadline. Which was unacceptable to me, I have too much integrity to put up with that for any amount of money. So I left Dell after making back to back awesome commissions which paid me 2 months after I left. I repainted my truck, bought some rims, and got 2-3 months ahead of my bills and screamed "Go Spurs Go" on my way out in OKC.

How true unless your a specialist then they lay you off in the constant belief that the core team will pick up the pace which they don't then after six months so Dell can't get sued they rehire at a cheaper salary for the same jobs. Dell has done this over and over. Syncopate upper management who have been no where but Dell and think they know all about sales even though if you look at their backgrounds most are old Systems Engineers or Channel types who have never carried a bag themselves. Lay offs are coming managers are being pulled into Round Rock all this week and last, stack rankings have happened . They will lay off now so they can not pay for medical and commissions in August. Next round will be in Feb.
