Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

You know those old white men you laid off

Yup those were the ones that knew about process and processor design. You don't find them in Bangalore. They stuck around getting ssl4 in Hillsborough because their kids were in school and it's a cottage industry. Good luck Intel you'll need it.

Most owg farts are made from stock option money they got in the 80s or early 90s. They have no mortgages, just nice mcmansions paid for in cash. Dito for their bmw 7 or mercedes s and one or two vacation homes. They are so happy to be kicked back enjoying a stress free life with a fat severence and minimum pension guarantee no insult tossed their way will bother them in the least. If you want to make them upset go back to your TWW workspace and do something to make intel great again. That might make them wish they hadn't gotten the boot. The way things are now being fired from intel is more likely a badge of honor and competence because the more owg fired the more intels decline accelerates.

Some advice:

1) Never become overly dependent on one employer -- Expand your skills into areas that interest you and are of interest of other employers

2) Think ahead 3 to 5 years -- If you think Intel will at best stagnate or at worst start circling the drain during this timeframe, then come up with a tangible plan on how to escape

3) When you do leave, go out on your own terms -- If you can bag a retirement or VSP package, then great but don't waste years of your life in misery waiting for one. Be ready to jump at that new adventure, and before you leave consider writing to the manager's of individuals who have somehow survived (or even thrived) at Intel despite being useless do-nothing shills. Write in constructive but frank detail about their repeated failures and shortcomings and admonish their management for protecting them when other more qualified individuals have been fired. They may not do a damn thing with the information, but you can't control what idiots do and don't do!

Good luck!

Whoever actually agrees with Intel's decision is completely clueless. Some of the posts are clearly written either by fresh graduates, new immigrants or (unfortunately) individuals parallel with reality. The first obvious argument against Intel' decision is purely technical. You don't take out seasoned engineers to make room for the "new", the project will simply. In all my career, I have never seen a technically capable Bangalore resident. I am not trying to be racist but ... it's nothing there. The decisions, the design, the implementation are all sub par. It's not about moving up the latter, my brown friend, unfortunately it's all you think about and you are missing the entire point. You are alone, you know that, right?

Uh, Merced was an even bigger failure. 10+ years, 10+ project managers.

@1kyg - Whitefield was one of the most spectacular failures ever, cancelled what, less than 1 year in? Dramalore never got sole responsibility for such a high profile project ever again. They are no Israel.

Hey White superstar OP, have you even attended high school? Do you know the spelling of Hillsboro? I am sure you might have been a janitor at intel.. your post proves that you are just a pessimist unqualified passer-by trying to vent your vitriol on a great company moving in the right direction

Intel OR folks have been spoiled for so many years making 2-3X the average person. Now that some has been cut, they make it seem like Intel have wronged them so much when reality is that they have made millions over the years. Now that gravy train has dried up, they are crying. There are no sympathies from other OR residents.

If you picked engineering, qa, lab tech as your career and expected to keep doing this until you were 65 and wouldn't be replaced by someone younger cheaper and more efficient and didnt try to move up the ladder, you made some really terrible career decisions.. if you tried and failed, that's a different problem, and then my sympathies for you. But u bet you didn't bother to try. You just expected the gravy train to continue without you needing to put any effort into it.

Average age of tech workers at TSM and Samsung is 30...that includes management.

30 is considered old for an engineer at Samsung. They routinely go though young guys in their early 20ies and once in their 30ies, if they don't make it to management, they leave or get removed and replaced by a early 20 something counterpart.. and the cycle repeats....and yet Samsung and TSM have the process lead now.

Fact is, Samsung and TSM work their employees harder and refresh their workforce with younger people more frequently than any US company. The fact that you were still an engineer and didn't move up ladder and survived as long as you did in your 40ies is remarkable, as it generally would not happen anywhere else in the world.

So stop whining.

Another accurate post that identifies some of the very many issues that Intel has. Intel is sadly learning the hard way that it cannot undo the damage that HR and Brian Krzanich have done to Intel. Firing the moron head of HR last year was just window dressing -- that did not fix anything. Intel's Board needs to clean house and get rid of many more incompetent senior leaders.
