Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Offshoring @ UnitedHealth

Do you think they will continue to offshore jobs? In the meeting Sam Ho said they sent 900 jobs offshore, so they are still doing it. I guess my question is how much of this offshoring are they going to do - ultimately, they can send all of the jobs offshore and keep only a handful that they are legally required to keep here in the states...

This is real question, I am not intending to stir the pot, we all know it's happening and my question is for how long can they continue to do it.

UnitedHealth has been offshoring mostly in customer service, support, and things like transcriptionists - places that are easy to just put another body on things. Please note that United has a lot of opportunities to improve your skills, grow, and plan your career. I've seen it happen first hand and have taken advantage of it. The company has a LearnSource program that teaches skills, and offers many classes for you to expand your horizons. They are all free. Unfortunately, most people don't look into it until they are getting laid off.

I'd suggest to every employee (not just at United) to make yourself more valuable, learn more skills, and move around in the company to gain as much experience as you can. When layoffs come, they won't want to get rid of people that they have trained and that have a lot of skills and knowledge. They also usuallly offer you the option to transfer in the company if you can find a job that utilizes your skills. Guess what? If you have more skills, you have more options.

We do offshoring better than any other company - I am 100% sure - we are so skilled in this area it's amazing.

Now, it's not good for the USA and the American Worker, but it sure helps the customer as costs are going down.
