Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Boeing layoff culture

Here we go again, Boeing layoff culture on the move. Boeing seems obsessed with two things – GE and layoffs, how many times does Boeing have to be burned by fools from GE? Boeing is doing blanket layoffs based on Level, from level 4 to 6 and K&L Mgrs.

Well engineers holding level 4 are the most experienced engineers in the company. If you’re trying to be competitive you don’t layoff your most experienced people. A case can be made that engineers holding level 4 and above are older, averaging about 61 years old, so this looks like age and benefit discrimination. Boeing just raised the price of their aircraft after telling everyone that these layoffs are needed to cut costs to be competitive… are you kidding me?

The top execs are making upwards of 15 million dollar salaries, yet no one sees these people taking a pay cut. Actually Boeing should layoff its engineers 1 and 2 because they are the least experience and are a dime-a-dozen on the market. Losing these lower level engineers has the least impact on operations because they don’t know enough, this simple fact is lost on management.

Boeing tried outsourcing with 787 at the behest of a GE CEO (Stonecipher was from GE before McDonald Douglas and before Boeing) and it was a disaster, have they learned anything, no. Stonecipher was considered to be an idiot by the rank and file McDonald Douglas employees, so of course Boeing made him the CEO of Boeing, they didn’t learn from that either. After that disaster they hired McNerney from 3M (he was from GE before 3M), and he was a fool who knew nothing about aircraft.

The current CEO is somewhat of an enigma, no one seems to what this guy about, the new guy in Boeing Commercial is just another GE guy, here we go again.

I was a Level 4 Engineer at the Seal Beach, CA facility. I believe I was hired in order to be laid-off because it didn't matter how hard I worked, or how late I stayed, or how many hours of free overtime I put in. My manager refused to give me a good performance appraisal so that when the time came he would just lay me off.

Hmmmm Boeing stock price at all time high but revenue is down with BCA margins actually in double digits 10% and BDS actually with 13% something margin plus major stock buy backs.Of course stating the factories and offices are much more efficient seems to indicate dumping / RIF the way to lower costs including SSG moves to BDS Mesa site, RIFs in BDS including 50 execs in a re-org (and probably countless support staff, engineering, etc. RIFs for only 3-6s to get rid of old expensive employees seems to be the way to get Wall Street off management's back. This new division has to work out with CAS / GS&S combined since BDS BMA is toast and can't win a fighter jet, bomber etc contract for love nor money that they had to put a 777x parts plant in St. Louis to help bring down the overhead cost as well as make it an IT center or excellence (cheapness). The BDS St. Louis site is probably going to be a blood bath of RIFs if they don't win the TX trainer contract as it can't keep making obsolete F-18s and F-15s forever especially with the C-17 work shut down. Now that the stock price and cash flow have Wall Street happy along with the dividends are the blanket layoffs over or do we have keep curing to beat Wall Street estimates for next quarter???

@1lsw, I get you, I really do. We are all frustrated, and I would like to yell sometimes too, but I'm afraid people are gonna just skip your reply just because it's written in ALL CAPS (harder to read, that's all).

WHY DOES BOEING NEED FIVE LEVELS OF HR SENIOR MANAGERS FOR EACH BOEING DIVISION AND MANY MORE MID AND FIRST LEVEL HR MANAGERS AND HUNDREDS OF HR SUPPORT PEOPLE WITH LITTLE TO ANYTHING TO DO ALL DAY LONG?

THESE HR PEOPLE WANT TO HOLD MEETINGS ALL DAY LONG OR ATTEND THEM WHICH USUALLY ARE A WASTE OF TIME WITH LITTLE AFTER VALUE.

LIKE RAY CONNER SAID BEFORE. BOEING MANAGER'S HOLD WAY TO MANY MEETINGS RATHER THAN CONCENTRATING ON BUILDING ACTUAL AIRPLANES.

WHY NOT START LAYING HR PEOPLE OFF? THE BOEING ENGINEERS AND MECHANICS, YOU KNOW THE PEOPLE WHO DESIGN AND BUILD THE BOEING AIRPLANES, HELICOPTERS, SPACE STRUCTURES, SATELLITES SURE AS HELL HAVE TAKEN A HIT!
