Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Manager set up a one on one meeting for Wed! This is very uncommon. Yikes.

"There's a lot of time before we get to 2nd half and things can change so the details are still being worked out" thats amazing. We will be starting 2nd half in a few days.

They can change any part of your compensation whenever it suits them as long as they do it by the book which usually means notification in advance of the start of the commission period in the case of "at risk" compensation. Back in January there was mention by management of technical sales moving from an 80/20 to 70/30 plan, effectively a paycut no matter how they spin it because to get to 70/30 and keep the base constant they would have to give everyone a commission pay increase to make the split. If OTE remains the same and the split changes like that then you are effectively making less base pay and your commission pay has increased, most likely with an absurd increase in the attainment number to make sure you never hit that full 30%.

When asked straight out if it meant the end result would be a cut to base pay the hesitant response was "there's a lot of time before we get to 2nd half and things can change so the details are still being worked out" which is a nice way of not giving an answer.

So from what I'm reading it looks like they may not be cutting as many jobs as they did at the start of the year, they're just cutting everyone's pay instead. If they do cut people then those left behind will have to pickup the slack for less $, great for the bottom line, crap deal for the employees.

I have a one on one setup today for 11AM.

This is very unusual since my last one on one was 2 weeks ago and they're monthly meetings.

Well had the one on one.

They're cutting me a grade level and decreasing my bonus.

I'm actually very surprised and was expecting to be layed off.

Still working on my web development side project.

I was actually hoping to get layed off if it's a decent severance package.

I'll be out on the golf course today smoking a cigar.

Then tomorrow I get started on my new business.

Done with working for the man every night and day!!!

Best of luck.

"Everyone please remember that, No one setups One on One meeting to let you go."

Really? I'm calling BS on that statement, I must be lucky, or unlucky as the case may be because that's EXACTLY how it happened to me, TWICE! At Dell that is, at EMC it was just a simple phone call from my manager, but the company ain't EMC anymore, things now will be done as Dell always does.

Should have just moved on after the first time but being a glutton for punishment I went back and survived a few more years before I got the 1 on 1 meeting request again, just me, manager, and HR rep.

Not going to make that mistake again, this time I did move on and life is so much better not having to be worrying about who's going to get the email this half, me, someone I work with, or perhaps my entire team as happened the first time.

If you're over 40 or near the top of the pay scale for your position you're a prime target unless you're management, doesn't matter how well you do your job, it's an economic decision and not much you can do about it, BTDT...

Everyone please remember that, No one setups One on One meeting to let you go. It happens in an blink and you will never know when it happened also, but its sure that HR, Manager will be there when you are called suddenly on Wednesday July 12th or Any other day.

Be positive and be ready for anything that comes whether work or let go. Please concentrate on Work everyone is doing rather thinking about being let go. As long as Work is there no one will be gone. ATB.

" Funny to see all of the Dell Employees saying this is fake."

They wish it were fake but anyone that is/was there for more than a year or two knows the truth of it. Dell does major cuts twice a year, at the beginning of the fiscal year in February and at the half point in the year which is August 1st and look where we are now!

If you look at the meeting invitation and find it's you, your manager, and an HR rep then start circulating a resume because they aren't having the meeting to tell you how great of a job you're doing...

If you can, check to see who else is invited to the 1:1. WARNING -- they may be blind CC.

I wish you all the luck. Was in your spot 6 months ago (lucky me, Manger changed our '1:1' from 10:30am to 4pm that day.

Bonuses are being cut also so you have to assume layoffs are going to occur. Did Dell achieve their revenue goals recently?

There have already been a lot of people either leaving in the last couple of weeks or cuts have begun. I have gotten a lot of updates through LinkedIn. Funny to see all of the Dell Employees saying this is fake.
