Thread regarding IBM layoffs

I Have a First line manager that thinks she Gods gift to IBM

First offI just got her as my first line manager she is not professional at all she thinks that she knows all. But some days every time I try to bee proactive she has other ideas. But on our team calls she just talks about how she wants it but the every other word out of her mouth is just funny to her I've talk to more IBMS that knows her and they don't have any respect for her. Funny that you work for ibm for 15 or 17 years that you no every thing. Technical software Manager.

Family Day was my favorite - it's so sad now - the enterprise has no soul...

@Ann Nonumous I used to be in an IBM Band! We got a couple hours of work time a week to rehearse and we played at all those thing we don't do any more - recognition dinners, Family Day, retirement luncheons, etc. Those were good times.

@1tli - I resigned in March 2016. This was my main reason (was unable to do it):

To be a successful IBM manager in 2017 you have to be willing to destroy people's lives without reason

There are good managers left, but they go through hell trying to do what IBM tells them without losing their soul. The terrible ones don't have that problem so they succeed and advance. To be a successful IBM manager in 2017 you have to be willing to destroy people's lives without reason, try to convince your employees of things you know are lies, smile and clap at everything the Dear Leader says, and never have an original idea. You are not allowed to tell the truth when you know it, but often you don't know it unless you figure it out for yourself. You watch ridiculous decisions made by clueless executives and then have to defend them in public. All the while, your employees constantly ask you what is going on, and you don't know any more than they do. Are we being laid off? Are we being co-located? Are we being reorganized out of existence? When the manager says he doesn't know, the employee assumes he's lying, but it is the truth. First line managers are kept in the dark about everything, and yet they are expected to handle people management. So yes, there are a lot of useless managers in the company, but there are also a lot of formerly good managers who are not allowed to be good managers any more.

Are they all that way? They have to prove value and are the protected. I have one who is just out right horrid and has no clue about the software we sell. Adds no value and just takes up space.
