Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How did we get so far off?!?

L48 has had something like 50% reductions since the downturn started and there's still plenty of room in the layers of management to cut more. I can't help but wonder what the heck we were doing hiring all these people during the shale boom - how we could we possibly think L48 needed as many people as we had prior to any layoffs and that we would grow to fill EC3 and EC4?!? How did it get so out of control? Seems almost impossible that the culture, work ethic, and processes can be fixed at this point, what a disappointment. I used to be proud to work for this company, but being in L48 and witnessing ELT's inability to recognize how bad things are and/or their unwillingness to make extreme, needed changes, has demonstrated this company is not currently what I thought it once was.

Main problem is they are not held accountable. The managers that were preaching the big numbers without any cost control should be let go. If you don't let any of them go, how can you avoid these things. Most people have a hard enough time just trying to change one little thing in their lives, you think these managers will ever change how they do their business management? It is no wonder COP has such poor morale. No changes equates to same mistakes over and over. I was there when they preached they would "act like" an independent. And as soon as it was said, the bid processes took over and it never happened.

all those managers/supervisors needed a team of people reporting to them or they wouldn't need so many managers.

ironically all those managers/sups are still there
