Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Storage group expected to be gutted by October! Dell is thinning the massive payroll. 140k employees is way to many to carry the huge debt.

EMC just "borrowed" 15 Compellent front-line engineers in Minnesota to help with their burden, so maybe that will help EMC....

3 years 2 months and counting, free paycheck with out any work. Seen some layoffs but they are just cost cut downs to meet numbers.

There is huge discrepancy among work distributions, too many redundant teams and very few teams work very hard and most teams got nothing for years. Some say they are swamped with work and many say they collect free paycheck, both are correct.

Same here. Swamped. Outnumbered. Have 3-5 Dell counterparts for each of my three different initiatives to match up with everything I'm doing in my role at the employer formerly known as EMC. 15x volume of emails and IMs. But hey, it's a paycheck, right?

Everybody commenting on not having any work needs to stop advertising it. I only wish I had that luxury... you deffo don't want to lose it.

ZZZ email list still has the same 9 names on it from weeks ago. That can't be right. There must be a new system - or they cycle through much faster. Or they just don't list them anymore.

I know there is around 115,000 employees. I kept track using the ZZZ email list, but I don't know how many jobs were filled. Most of this year you could not keep track using the ZZZ email list as they seemed to delete the ZZZ names very quickly or not show them at all. What do you think I was doing each day everyday when I'm just sitting around collecting a pay check. Wake up people!!!!

if you are really good you can come back as contract worker. Dell keeps their own cronies but still need someone to work the engine. That's where contract comes in.

"140k employees is way to many"

Agree on this. 30-40% of them needs to be cut.

Where did you see there is still 140,000 employees?

In Wikipedia it says that as of 2016 dell had 138,000 employees. Are you telling me that for less than one year dell laid off 22,000 employees unnoticed ?

It's more like 115,000 employees currently left, maybe even less by now.

Dell launches $20 billion high-grade bond

The newly merged entity is expected to have more than US$50bn of debt, and amid worries about both the storage and personal computer sectors, some investors were cautious.

"We are concerned about the long-term decline of the storage and server business in particular," said Bill Zox, a portfolio manager at Diamond Hill Capital Management.

Don't understand how is this going to help the company. So they are cutting OPEX or project team of failed products? Last thing you want is to remove talents.

Capitalism - Few Winners and Many Losers . Many people are getting desperate and did not see what will happen. Call it ignorance , call it denial , the Earnings Report has been screaming as Law of Diminishing Returns has been staring in their face.

Many have homes, family, children in college and many will lose all of it. No way out of this mess for while till debt is cleared up.
