Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

In response to this post

Our normally calm and level headed director just went off on managers about protecting under performing employees. Then called in managers to ask details about specific employees. Winter is coming.....

If what you are saying is true. This will be the best winter and Christmas Dell will ever have. But I don't think executives and directors have balls to expose this story about managers protecting insider snakes. It's like opening a can of worms.

Comments are welcome but be truthful. Thanks.

It's corporate nothing to see here move along. Age, gender and race discrimination. Never go to HR as they work for the same people you do. HR, executives and managers will never expose what's real, why would they, they dont want a reputation. Tell Dell results really anonymous? Everything is wonderful because all naysayers and complainers will be restacked and gone.

Younger colleagues should be aware of who, how old and how much the ones being laid off contributed. Look around you, not everyone stays young. Dell wants a younger, cheaper workforce. If you decide to stay longer in the US you're better off in management s---ing big hairy white balls. You should find out how many managers and executives are non-white, female or both.

It all seems eerily same the world over. The leadership team in BDC storage is one big scam. These people are not even connected with their teams. They have some asslickers who are their favourites. With pathetic business and technical skills these folks are nothing but low grade politicians. The leader of this group claims that the VP of MRES and the CTO are in his pockets. In an open all hands this guy claimed that as lol he is bothered is his SMS at the end of the month announcing his salary. The old directors are a pathetic lot whose only past time in office is playing video games and watching YouTube. The senior techies in the team are just bogus engineers who haven't written code in their lives. I hope the leadership in Hopkinton takes cognizance of it's team in Bangalore and take action against them.

Oh yes, I forgot about all those Silver awards that were given BY THE MANAGER to the under performers -- NEVER ONCE BECAUSE OF A CUSTOMER. No coincidence, the manager was skewing metrics so his inept kissers look like superstars because his calculations actually penalize those who took the time to be accurate and the time spent fixing the incorrect sloppy half- work of his inept superstars (must be oversight quality was not a component of his little metrics scam!). He started handing out awards to underperformers like candy about layoff time. No big surprise, he also needed people to lie for him during an "in-house" investigation for a complaint filed against him... which was no more than an "in-house" fact-finding mission so they could collude and execute the cover-up. And, every part of it included the divisional level right on up to the VP of Americas level... whose buddy just happened to be handed the position over this manager. To this day, nobody knows what VP's buddy is managing... the only thing I ever saw him manage was the full blown coverup for the useless manager who couldn't even manage his way out of a paper bag... and know for a fact he couldn't make it in NJ/NY division so he transferred to MAD and where he magically flourished because he realized he wasn't ever going to make it on his own merit so he became the SME at kissing and *ing up. It served him well, he made it through a big layoff where he should have been #1 to go and they created a special job just for him (basically just a title change so they could legally keep him in the same job) and interestingly enough, it was a huge secret... You should have seen the uproar I caused when I congratulated him on it and asked why he hasn't shared it with anyone!! It was awesome. Then when that cush imaginary job came to an end, he miraculously got handed a job in the same role he wasn't cut out to do in NJ/NY and know for a fact he was a miserable failure because I met his former manager at a bootcamp and he told me to my face and couldn't hide his laughter when he said this guy's name. Said he never amounted to what they thought he would and they were glad to see him go and it was a win/win situation when he left. And, he did win because ONLY in MidAtl could a loser like that thrive with multiple complaints filed against him... the only thing he ever engineered in his life was career stability by doing senior managers dirty work so they didn't have to get their soft hands dirty. Oh, and the employees who lied for this dirtbag during the sleazy in-house investigation just happened to come out on top of a "stacked ranking" and got rewarded with promotions for secret jobs that didn't exist but magically existed the day before the group got laid off... Is anyone surprised that these individuals were ranked by managers who didn't even know them or that the promotions were kept a secret ? It's true but hey, stacked rankings are legit and really accurate! This is the insidious despicable culture (at EMC) so It should have NEVER been a shock to anyone when Tucci pimped out EMC to DELL. EMC was already pillaged, hosed and decimated by a select group who used it as their personal playground for their self-gratification while they got paid outrageous sums of stockholders' $$$... and, now... they are just sitting around doing nothing but biding their time until they can collect the motherload of all payouts. They truly belong behind bars in orange jumpsuits -- the only difference between them and a street thug is the expensive suits that the stockholders bought for them.

It has always been a corporate culture of 'lick up and kick down' designed it seems purely to breed mediocrity.

While I certainly don't think managers would go out of their way to protect any underperformers, when you hire managers with absolutely no technical skills purely based on politics....and those people just go with what they think looks and sounds well....even though they have absolutely no idea if any of it is correct

Well then there will always be plenty of people who will be happy to spout the right sounding nonsense

Well said Sir.

It's not just Emc, even Dell Nashua NDC is the same. Certain managers inside employees gets silver awards, LTI's, full bonus, pay hikes and promotions with no contributions to company. Those employees come to work at will and leave at will, they don't work as they have no talent or skill and they never gets laid off as they are protected by managers. Even those managers are protected by directors. Everyone knows this but are afraid to speak, which is a shame. All Tell Dell results are manipulated. All complaints to HR, Dell Ethics were buried.

How DELL EMC will ever succeed.

It is common knowledge managers routinely protect under-performing employees AND it is NOT at their expense. They protect the losers because they are the ones who have to ck ss to keep a job since they can't keep one on their talent, skills and competence because they have none. The competent, on the other hand, are not interested in playing politics or feeding some irrelevant, useless, narcissistic, overpaid manager's ego but obviously this will get you laid off or PIPed out the door on a bunch of bogus allegations or skewed metrics (and you better believe the worthless metrics are manipulated because I saw it and was asked to change things by regional/divisional directors) but hey, collusion is "cool" and everyone's doing it! And, those stacked rankings? Soooo 80's and soooo bogus. Absolutely the ONLY reason to use them is to stack the deck towards the ss kissers who usually are the manager's little **es and only too happy to do the dirty work and always at the manager's disposal to blatantly lie at other employees' expense and always eager to lie in order to cover the manager's ss -- that's how to ensure you come out on top in that scientifically accurate stacked ranking so it also means job stability and sometimes it even means a big fat promotion for a job that doesn't exist until it was secretly created as a reward for lying!! Happens all the time... So, if you really are an EX manager, you have only proven what everyone else already knows: managers are so entrenched in the phony, fake, insidious, dirtbag culture they have created they actually become delusional and believe the BS they spew but what they will never believe is that it is common knowledge that everyone knows what is going on and knows this sleazy culture has existed, at least at EMC anyway, for the last 10 years or so. Ummm, and that, boys and girls, is why EMC is now called DELL. And, then the greedy, dirty managers were all that was left so they turned to cannibalism and ate each other up and nobody cared. The end.

Underperformance is defined by where you place in the stack rank. Unfortunately, stack ranking at Dell EMC is used as a weapon and is manipulated to match the management desired outcome. Politics is rampant and actual production or expertise is a distant second. As a result, the chosen ones that kiss a-- above and know nothing will always have a place. Ex-EMC manager.

Managers are not going to protect under-performing employees; at their own expense. I speak from experience.
