Search is failing me, or I am still too sleepy to function efficiently, but I can't find any concrete info on what severance is like at Seagate in case of layoffs... Anybody knows what to expect in case I find myself being shown the door? I am considering leaving on my own with all the uncertainty, but I'd like to know if it's worth sticking it out a bit longer.

Bottom line is that you get what's delivered to you. History showed it's getting worse, not better.
It started with voluntary retirement when some brilliant HR personnel notice Seagate average employee age was higher than norm. It paid up to 2 yr wage for qualified employees to leave and hire new grad's to replace. It will end up with 4 wk notice pay with no severance when STX gives up in recruiting talent new blood.
Sweet deal. Most companies capped at 6 months or less at the peons level. Chieftains get better deal.
Regarding the last batch of layoffs in derry last year I think it was capped at 19 years service.
No cap ?
Will be worried. But, you know the answer. The living will envy the fired. Good luck on your way.
For US, 4 wk notice plus severance (1wk/yr worked if less than 5 yr up to 2wk/yr worked if more than 10 yr), no more accrued vacation. This is subject to change, of course. Good luck on job hunting.
if you work more than 10 years please wait for retrenchment package (if there is and pray is a good one), all of us are just waiting for retrenchment package aka show the door
If you manage to find a new job, is best to leave Seagate.

Might be country-specific so any answers you get here may be invalid for where you are. Try searching "separation pay plan" for the documentation on the internal HR pages.
