Samsung did almost everything right.
Sold STX HDD division now closed.
Sold all STX stock to pay for S8 Noe recall.
Leading 3D NAND tech as the last nail to HDD coffin.
This thread is gold!
Wow alot confuse here. Let me comment. 1. Hammer is use laser to read and write yes but not danger. Is not like cat laser. Cat laser is red but drive laser is blue so less energy.

Real danger in open drive is spinning metal. Very sharp and can cut. I know. Saw presentation that said disk moves at 3 times speed of sound.

Don't open drive or the hydrogen will leak. If that happens go to Best Buy and ask for Geek. They can fix.
Some people need to fix their sarcasm meter
You couldn't get hurt your eye by hamr laser. Because HAMR laser will be burn the head and disc before you open it.
I do not like when someone say Hammer is HARM. It is not harmful if do not open and look at laser light! If you do is your fault and will burn small hole in eye. Then doctor. I know I saw when play with cat and laser once. Very bright. Have eye hole now!
I too have heard the great! news that Hammer is now reliability and launch very soon. This is great! And in Asia there was party and celebrate. It good news. When they sell in store, box with drive should say "laser inside" and then everyonebody buy! So excite!!
Another post from someone wearing seagate tinted glasses still worshipping at the feet of seagate....and its not hammer its HAMR. We are not doubters..we are realists.If what you say is true then Steve L would still stay at the helm to take all the glory and platitudes,but he isnt,big Dave M is getting moved into place to take all the flack.
Hammer?? Stop kidding me. Even if hammer succed. Is there any plan after Hammer?
When Hammer is release soon, all this will look like joke. Hammer drives will be king, not this "flash in the pan". Not only do SDDs not have the moving part, they lack the necessary LAZERs that consumers want. Better reliability than conventional SDSs, faster downloads and faster bandwiths, at much lower price (Hammers are very cheap compared to traditional magentic drives; think a 10x reduction because of huge density gain!!) all add ups. Get ready for Total Market Dominate. All you doubters gonna look prety silly!
If people really paying attention, the end of HDD already written on the wall nearly a decade ago.
1Tb=1024Gb=128GB
1TB=1024GB
Yes. QLC is an instant 400% price drop for NAND and it will be commercially sold NEXT YEAR. STX revenue may go to zero quicker than people think. So many people here at STX still in denial all the way to the very top.
Samsung made a great money out of that deal. They got half cash and half stock at the closing. Several years later they sold stock about four times higher than what they got. And got rid of dying HDD business. Smart cookies
Didn't they sold their HDD to STX - what a deal it was ... STX thought they got a bargain. Only if SJL knew ...
