Thread regarding Denbury Resources Inc. layoffs

WATCH OUT OLD PEOPLE-you ARE the list

Will this be another house cleaning or everyone over 60? Crazy they haven't had more lawsuits than the ones we all know about (and settled).

I hope I get to stay here. If I don't, it's business. Its not personal. Maybe I'll get to come back. I'll take the all those HR people because when my daughter got so sick we didn't know if she was going to make it and I needed to stay with her they did everything to make it ok and help us, they went out Of their way to help my husband and I get through the worst time of our lives with insurance, pay, bills, more. Thank God it's all ok now. I think half the reason we have been treated fair is because of them. It's easy to throw rocks. This is business.

The advice below is by far the best post on this entire website. My hats off to this gentleman. "Be nice to your spouse, they also are going to feel the pain of a job loss". So true, so much so I know of 3 friends in the industry who went through a divorce within a year after being laid off from other E&P Operators. Definitely CONSERVE your resources, technical positions in oil companies are very hard to come by in DFW. You will be added to the ever growing pool of unemployed engineers and geologists. This would be a good time to pick up a hobby that you have always wanted to do. If your still relatively new to the industry, less than 10 years, this might be a good time to go back to school, get that Masters degree you've always thought about. Diversify yourself, as it may be quite some time before oil prices rebound, that's my plan if I am part of the RIF. Life after Denbury will be hard, you might go through many different stages of emotions, but it's not personal, strictly business, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Keep your head up and if you are part of the RIF, take some time to soul search, and decide how you want to proceed in your career.

The 2016 cuts were done the same way, Whitney, Management and Legal met with an outside Legal firm that specializes in Out-placement activity. They have all of their processes thought out, must be one of the only things that they are good at! Why else do you think that they staffed up the HR department to a level that no other company of Denbury's size has ever seen before, and I've been in the business a long time. The employee's that are part of the next RIF, take the money and CONSERVE your resources, you never know how long it will take in the DFW market to find another Oil job. Be nice to your spouse, they are also going to feel the pain of a job loss, but you will need them to help you pull through this. To the few who will still have a job at DRI, don't feel smug, it could still happen to you, but in the mean time you are going to be one very busy SOB! Give your spouse a picture to remember what you look like since you will be living at the office all of the time, where ever it moves. Maybe even out of town!

In the 2015 cuts, those that were walked out, had in their packets, a list of all the positions (not names) and departments and AGES of those being cut. Obviously part of the layoff recipe nowadays to help lay groundwork of defense in case of litigation regarding age.

Anybody can sue. But how were the payoffs compared to severance? From data I saw, they were pretty careful to get rid of as many young as they did old. That's part of what HR and legal are pad to ensure. And they've got the paperwork to prove it.

I know 2 managers and 2 regular guys, not big shots who were in the other layoffs and sued. They were paid off because the laidoff so many of us with gray hair. Hard to say I know less than all the youngsters here doing the same stuff.
