Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Mindless shuffling, redux

Lots of new re-organization going on now in IBM. Cloud, Watson, Analytics all merging into one org. Of course, this is likely in order to severely reduce headcount after the black-out period ends when 2Q results are announced on July 18. Yet another reorg, how many in the last few years? Seems like every six months. The mindless panicked thrashing of a large dying beast. Changes are being made everywhere except where they need to be - at the top. The head of the snake. Where the real problem and poor performance has been for six years now.

The beat goes on. How many quarters of declining sales and revenue until the board sees this as the death spiral that it is and bounces Ginny and her band of merry men? Sad to say there is a lot more pain and decline in the future for this once great company.

The process for this started back in May just before I left, with the hit list being made up. this time it will effect middle management. Many IBMers where already looking for new jobs and since I have had an abundance of them (many I do not know) contacting me asking if we are hiring.

I doubt Q2 results will make any difference.

IBMer has the best posts here - I've been following him/her here since 2016 - probably the only reason why I keep coming back to layoffs.com

That's tough. It's time to cut your losses at IBM and work for a forward-moving company. IBM once offered a lot of promise to new employees who saw a bright career ahead with Big Blue. But the company is a shell of its former self and the dire situation will hardly improve in the future, regardless of how much Kool-Aid we drink.

Life is considerably better outside IBM---as a former IBMer I can guarantee you will be infinitely happier while attaining a healthier work-life balance after you leave. Look at IBM as a learning experience that will help you achieve bigger and better things. Everything will fall into place.

Announced internally in the US today. Reality, not gut instinct or unsupported claim.

There was an announcement to that effect in the UK earlier this week.

"Cloud, Watson, Analytics all merging into one org."

Any reference that can provide which supports this statement?

Cloud, Watson, and Analytics are everything IBM claims to care about. The single organization with all three together is the new IBM. The rest can now be shut down or sold off.
