"Digital Natives" vs. "Digital Immigrants"

The hard truths of navigating ageism in IT http://www.cio.com/article/3198472/careers-staffing/the-hard-truths-of-navigating-ageism-in-it.html speaks about the notion of "Digital Natives" meaning typically younger employees who grew up with digital technology. Yet most people have had computers and smartphones for years. I'm not sure willingness to adopt new technologies is an age related issue. The notion that "newer" is "better" or change for its own sake is more about marketing than substance. Those who swallow their own marketing hype tend to perish.

Nonsense. I have four digitally literate millennial children from 25 down to 16 and they still come to me with their computer problems. They don't understand any more about the inner workings of their devices than they understand about their cars. This was an issue as late as the 1990's when older middle level managers couldn't even use keyboards because typing was " a secretary's job" for most of their career. Those days are long gone.

It is about money and about the older millennial managers who are uncomfortable leading and managing people with more experience than they have.

If you grew up with smartphones you're not curious about how they work, they're just there. It's the older people who still marvel at technology and want to learn more. I want to hire the people who still think,
