This Open Letter is long, but its message is simple: “Set an example that others can follow.” Be worthy of your esteemed brand and heritage. Today we have serious concerns about very low morale among IBMers and its adverse impact on growth and shareholder value. We believe the essence of what that makes IBM exceptional and innovative—its values and culture—is jeopardized by recent edicts issued by headquarters that have resulted in business disruptions, unfair labor practices, concerns about corporate governance, and departure of long-term employees with valuable, and sometimes irreplaceable skills.
