Top gets new titles, middle level workers pay the price

SLB is famous for cutting people to save the bottom line but this time they have lost the plot, they were suppose to re-org the company to get rid of what they admitted was one of their problems being to top heavy but all they did was move them around into new job titles and the blood bath of the middle level workers especially if over 50 is about to beginning again so they can protect that bottom line and bonus.

Let's send him a letter!

DEar Paal: congrats on fastly becoming the IBM of the 80s! Continue to surround top mags with ineffective and visionless personnel. Thanks so mush for depleting all the talent and leadership from the ranks. Good luck with the turn around that will happen shortly.

Regards,

The So Impressed Professionals Who Have Moved On

Why would you stay? There is no opportunity for mid level employees like you.

PK believes it takes years to make a manager from an employee but it takes only 3 month course to make an engineer from a fresh graduate.

Top heavy management you say. Let me give you an example.

In a CDP meeting that I have for my project, my "concurrent team" has 9 managers, and 1 worker (me), as follows:

1) N+1

2) N+2

3) Segment Product Champion

4) Segment Stakeholder

5) Segment Advisor

6) Software Manager

7) Software Architect

8) QA Manager

9) TechCom Manager

10) Project Engineer (me)

I present the CDP and get approval on my work from these 9 people!

I don't know that it can be easily solved. With all of the expertise that has been cut out, there are no easy solutions left. For those of us left who knew what we could get done, we are drowned out by the golden knee pad types. All the smart young people we bring in, we find a way to either get rid of or force them to want to leave.

All true. The nano-management lifestyle they created here exist only to feed egos and paychecks for doing nothing more than checking a box. Over managed is an understatement for what goes on here. SLB always plays employee shuffle because everyone with real authority is a box checker. A top down cleaning is required to get this top-heavy triple D disaster going again.

Yeah all the presidents and vp's are protecting each other. Now they can't come up with enough layoffs at the top they are pushing it down 1&2 levels. Only problem is they have to lay off 2 for every VP they save to get the same comp savings. Paul still has no one reporting to him that will tell him the truth on what's really going on. The board will come looking for accountability at some point!
