Oil will be deadtesla just made a battery

tesla just made a battery that lasts longer and works better in the cold....just a matter of time before it becomes cheap and gasoline will be obsolete....

Hydrogen powered vehicles with water vapor coming out of the tail pipe makes much more sense for a mobile fuel than heavy metal batteries. Yes, he has used his leadership skills to get people to line up for what they hope to be a successful green effort. Truth is many people are anxious to line up for any green effort that appears to have a chance of being successful. Much of this green desire is due to the liberal press and it's agenda. With hydrogen only a few changes to infra structure (fuel supply) is necessary the cars remain the same with internal combustion engines and poor people can still remain mobile without relying on mass transportation. I am afraid with electric battery powered cars only the wealthy will remain independently mobile while the poor relinquished to rely upon mass transportation easily controlled by government.

If COP had a CEO as passionate and hardworking as Elon Musk, got to wonder how COP would be right now? Plus he is heading up Space X and Tesla at the same time which are both highly innovative companies - you can say what you want about the "electric cars will never work out" but you have to give credit as he has pushed this a long way. Steve Jobs said that he wanted everyone to have a computer when no one relied on them for anything and they were just a hobby item for nerds. So point is that vision is important and if you never push the envelope then we'd still be fumbling around with square wheels living in caves haha.

Last article I read showed that about 22-25% of oil production was used for gasoline. Oil isn't going away anytime soon.

There is no cheaper mobile alternative energy than energy you can just pump out of the ground. We have known for years that oil is much to valuable to use as fuel, oil is much more valuable for petrochemicals and plastics. For mobile energy applications with no pollution we should be using hydrogen from water provided by electrolysis.

Our electricity is generated by 34% Natural gas, 30% Coal, and 20% Nuclear and the rest is wind/hydro/ and Biofuels in the United States.

China is 90% Coal..those basterds..

Not sure how soon that can be changed.

We really need to clean up our act....

Computers brought about the demise of Kodak and Blockbuster, companies that deal with information. Xerox, to their credit, realized they were in the document (ie. information) business instead of the electric typewriter business, and they started making copiers and printers, and even developed the first GUI.

Unless we make some astounding physics discoveries, we're not going to see a step change in how we move around 3000 lb piles of steel and plastic. That whole F=ma thing. Modern cars perform exceptionally well, and are very safe (a new minivan will beat most any 60's era sports car around a track, and you probably won't die if you roll over). Is a Tesla much quicker or safer than a Ford? No. Does it have a lower fuel cost? I dunno, maybe, but not enough to offset the higher purchase cost. Is it more convenient to fuel? Not if you want to drive more than 100 miles from your house. Without any meaningful advantage, they have to be marketed as luxury or sports cars so that people with a lot of spare cash can feel smug. But over time, they will get cheaper and more practical. But then again, so will hybrids which are way more versatile. Overall, fuel consumption will go down to be sure, but not overnight.

Even if we could switch to electric cars overnight, we'd probably have to double or triple our electricity generating capacity. Good luck with that, especially since we p***ed out on nuclear. So, thanks to the myopia of environmentalists, we'll be burning a bunch of natural gas for the foreseeable future. Again, oil and gas has little to worry about.

what percentage of O&G is used for gasoline and then the other stuff. It is amazing how ignorant oil and gas workers can be. There is nothing wrong with new advancement in tech. Get with the times instead of fighting it.

xerox, kodak, blockbuster all these companies said the same thing. Change is good - get with it

Did they discover a cheap and clean way to CHARGE the batteries?

Oh, cool. Did they also find a way to make plastic, fertilizer, and jet fuel from electricity too? They also found a way to quickly extract a few million tons of lithium?
