Bangalore Redundancies

My brother was told today (22nd May) about being made redundant at HPE office in Bangalore. He hadn’t even completed even one year in HPE and has been asked to leave. That too with just has an option of 2 months’ salary. He moved over from Pune and at the time, was provided relocation allowance, but while leaving he will be on his own.

It is scandal that in India companies are allowed to make people redundant at drop of a hat and companies don't take any responsibility. They shouldn’t have recruited people when the plan was to fire them within next 10-12 months. I'm sure these redundancies would have been in pipeline for more than a year but executed after the merger of HPW and CSC.

All the people who have been through this exercise should get together and fight for better severance pay.

GOOD, Finally India is seeing what we in the US have been seeing for years when our jobs were sent off shore. in the US no contract, right to hire and fire at any time

I know Indian's are just trying to make money for there livelihood, but our Jobs shouldn't be sent to other countries.

There is no 'severance' being given in India, just the 2 months notice period. In India, employees work for low pay in the hope of a 'secure job' but now the jobs are no longer 'secure' and employees fail to realize that working for peanuts is getting them no-where except on to the street.

In the US, under 1 year would get ONE WEEK severance. One week for every year of service if that. We have no protective laws in the US.

Is this not covered by the Indian Industrial Disputes Act 1947?

Maybe not, if he has worked less than 1 year.
