The underlying criteria is cost. McKinsey have given them a schedule of what and who to cut when and that is what they are doing.

They will make all manner of excuses around your being in an inappropriate job code or not performing but that that is all just a hairy bag of gonads designed to make it look like it's your own fault.

Criteria in USA: 1) you are standing up 2) you are breathing (and in some states Number 1 may not apply).

i know people that have resigned during WFR periods and have been offered WFR instead so that they dont have to give WFR to somebody else. I know others that have tried this and have been declined the oppertunity for WFR even during WFR periods.

They know who they want to keep.

I hope to get out as soon as possible. I hope I will be on the list. I need to work for a company that respects their workers and with products I am totally behind. There are so many people that are scared to loose their jobs, for which it has a big impact. They should better let the people go that want to go, and that lost their trust already a long time ago.

@wuy makes a very good point. I was made redundant by HPE ES in March and decided to try my hand at contracting. I was lucky and got a contract very quickly. I have since discovered that one factor that helped me was that the hiring manager and I had mutual contacts on LinkedIn. He spoke to two of them who were kind enough to speak well of me and this gave him additional assurances for his decision to make me an offer.

My advice is be respectful of your immediate colleagues, anyone more than two levels above you in the food chain cares not one jot about you and they will do whatever McKinsey said to do and McKinsey just see you all as an overhead to be eliminated.

There is no criteria for layoffs. I've been on conf calls where it is based on numbers. Need to cut the budget? Lay off ten. It goes like this. You have the worker bees. The worker bees direct manager will usually lay off based on skill sets or on how much a person annoys the manager.

The next person above the manager doesn't care anything about skill sets and will lay off based on numbers only.I've seen this over and over in the real world. If you think the guy above your manager is trying to protect your job, think again.

The best thing you can do for yourself is do the best job you can, and get along with your coworkers. The next job you will get will almost certainly come about as a result of knowing somebody that already works there. So impress your coworkers. They are the ones that matter.
