Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Commuting?

Is it true that APC won't allow those moving to Midland commute (i.e. travel back to The Woodlands on weekends to see their families)?

Bonus is not woth it! If your partner is losing their job to move, paying for private school (public school is terrible there) and all the cost of getting your house set up (landscaping, painting, general needs). Lucky to break even. Medical is poor there and no entertainment for families.

Agreed, not worth it to uproot a family.

Is there a provision for Anadarko to purchase your current home?

Will they help with the purchase of a new one in West Texas?

Is there a moving allowance or is that supposed to come out of the 75K?

Many things to consider.

It's a 2 year contract to get the 75k. And it's paid over the span of 2 years. If you leave before your contract is up, you have to pay it back at a prorated amount. It's a 37.5k bonus per year. Turns into about 25k/year after taxes. Not worth it.

That's if Anadarko has a position open where you came from.

My guess is if you change your mind inside of a year you would have to forfeit the 75K to remain working for Anadarko elsewhere.

What If you commit to move, you move and then once there change your mind and want to go back to where you came from. Is that allowed?

You're right. You can do whatever you want. But their stipulation to receive a 75k bonus is to move your family there by August. It's your choice whether or not to collect that bonus. They're not shipping you or your family out there at gunpoint in handcuffs. This being America works for them too. They can put stipulations on whatever they want. Take it or leave it. I'd leave it.

What a stupid thing to think or say! This is America and you can do as you like with your off time. I would try and fly rather than drive though.

And yet they fly Al back and forth to Cali every weekend on the company jet to see his.

Seems they do have at least one more asset in west Texas they could sell.

Sounds like a textbook "Bait and Switch".

You can.... but won't get the 75k bonus if your family doesn't relocate by August. Personally, I wouldn't go to WTX again for a 200k bonus. The money isn't worth the years spent resenting life in the Permian. Especially in the prime of your life. Take a decent salary with another company in the place you want to live. Much less with a company losing $330MM per quarter at >$50 oil even after selling off all it's assets and multiple rounds of layoffs.

I find that very hard to beieve if it's your days off and you use your own personal vehicle and funds.

That's like telling you where you can't take a vacation.
