I was elated today to receive a check for 1000$ from a Follett class action lawsuit from assistant managers regarding overtime pay. Follett has settled for nearly 2million dollars out of court.That are a horrible company I was abused many times 6 months ago I left a very prominent school as a manager. I can't wait till the upper management is directly sued. I worked an unhealthy amount of overtime without justification. Good riddance to a @&$&hole company. This check should've been more like 5k to adequately compensate my overtime.

Yes, it's ok to cash the check! The only reason you wouldn't is if you've retained counsel to sue follett for owed back wages due to being misclassified as exempt. Even in that case, show your lawyer the papers that came with the check. Otherwise, take their money! severance isn't a given. employment isn't a given. That check is money in hand. Take it!

Read the documentation that came with the check. This was overtime paid to ASMs who's positions were later reclassified as non-exempt. It represents overtime between Oct 2013 and some point in 2017 (I don't have the papers with me). This is the Williams case. follett is admitting no wrong doing.
To the person who was laid off after 20 years, I feel your pain. I wan't laid off, but I was driven out. No severance, no thank you, just a bunch of lies and abuse.
Finally if you're afraid to cash the check, call the contact on the documentation. They're labor lawyers who just won a settlement from follett regarding what A-wh0les they are. They'll tell you if there are any risks and how to mitigate them. They're your lawyers, in this matter.

I would wait a minute before cashing those checks. This is not for the Williams - Colban lawsuit. That is the one that triggered Follett reclassifying everyone as hourly. If you cash these checks, you are excluding yourself from that lawsuit.
My coworker and I are a little concerned about cashing this check as current employees. I believe the dollar amount was contigent on how long you have worked for Follett. What kind of backlash are we going to experience if this check is cashed? Can they use this as an excuse to fire us? I know there are folks who hate this company but I haven't had that kind of experience.
what is the reason some got a check? did they join the suit or across the board people are getting money? is it just people that held certain positions?
if the asm and cm positions worked so much o.t. than the store managers did also. Do managers get something? what about the stores that the manager is the only fulltimer? Those managers definitely work way more than bigger store managers.
I was with them for 2 1/2 years. That was 2 1/2 too long. I have never had such a horrendous job in all my 40 years, worked with such horrendous upper management , abuse, harassment , demeaning a--holes. The antiquated hardware , the mismanagement, the lies deceit and good lord leave now I'm serious go.

I received a check for $500, but was only employed for a year as a CM.
I only received 83.42 but was one of the ASMs that was laid off in October of 2013 after 20 years of working at my store. Pretty crappy indeed.
I do not know what everyone got. This is the one filed by Williams v Follett. It is public feel free to look it up ...oh and get out of that organization! Thy really are going down.
Is this the one filed by Angela Williams & Tom Colban? Did everyone get $1000?
