Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Ginni's Big New July 2017 RA/Firing

Rumors now starting to fly about the "big one" coming next month (after first half business closes). There was just a post on watching ibm (facebook) about asia-pacific region, managers are asked to draw up their lists and told they will be immediately fired if they leak the news. I would assume the same for other geos, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc. Makes sense since 2Q is reportedly not going well at all. Please post any new news/info about this coming RA here or on watching IBM (facebook). Let's coordinate to help each other. Probably best to start looking outside for a new job now, to beat the rush. In other news, Ginni did accept her disgusting, grotesque salary and bonus/compensation package for doing such a great job (coming up on 21 straight quarters of declining revenue under her reign of terror).

IBM has taken down its employee "ACCESS IBM" phone list. Customers now must call India to find anyone at the company. The India call center says the system is "down" but will not acknowledge that this was done intentially, tho it has been offline for about a week now.

Meanwhile huge cuts across former SWG operations are happening. Not sure about rest of IBM.

Whatever happened to Ginni's commitments to rebuild customer relationships? Hard to do that if your customers have no way to reach you!

I think I read a Harvard Business Review case study that advocated a strategy of firing older experienced workers and replacing them with cheap incompetents as a way to improve results.

Maybe not.

The whole bridge to retirement package is a total scam after many years of service take your 30 days of severance and go quietly ... but the big thing they don't tell you is that it screws you out of unemployment benefits too and just try to find a job in this market if you're over 55 ...

Strong rumors that a company-wide retirement transition program will occur, to further clear out older workers.

I'm a contractor, working from home. Mid-May was notified IBM was cutting my pay rate by 11%. Then June 19 (2017) notified I was on unpaid furlough June 20 through June 30. Some important client functionality is broken, I was working on repair - the offshore guys I work with cannot handle it. Tough luck for the client. Another guy in the department was laid off - no notice, just badge did not work June 20th. We hear there are layoffs in IBM India as well on our account.

So IBM not waiting for July for the dirty work. They sure have killed their relationship with this client!
