So all of XTO is moving to Houston. Why do you all not have anything on this forum. Do you not know anything or all you all afraid of not being marketable if you are laid off.
You all know there is also going to be a mass layoff at Exxon coming. Hopefully you all can make it in the actual oil and gas industry instead of living in the Exxon world. Good luck y'all
XOM lost about 30% when Midland was shut down in the 1990s. XOM expects about the same loss. Will lose a lot of admin and some accounting and engineering. XOM is already starting to hire replacements.

Management thinks they’ll be able to get oompa loompas (low cost incompetent minions in foreign lands) to offload the grunt work. The problem is they’ve proven themselves unable to even complete basic paperwork. It doesn’t matter if their pay is low since their productivity is even lower. Their highest ranked person wouldn’t even break out of the bottom 10% in the U.S. pool. So sad to see good U.S. jobs being shed. U.S. high school students would perform better (and that’s saying a lot).
4mbr - The problem with cutting all the contractors is that we do not have the right technically savvy employees to backfill them with even if we did have the right people to backfill there is to much administrative checking the boxes items that an employee has to do so we wouldn't even have enough time to do it. This is why a contractor is 1.5-2 times more productive then an employee is.
What I fear is exactly what 4zbl said. Move then get laid off in 6 months. I have moved 4 times in 12 years with Exxon and now back to Houston where I moved out of 8 years ago. I was glade to sell my house their at the time but looking at it now I can't even afford that house now as it's gone up in value from a $225k house to a $650k house. Literally it was just listed and sold on HAR granite it was in the heights but still I did not save or make that much more in the last 8 years to cover that increase
If you are in your late 40's or early 50's you have to follow your paycheck to Houston. Not the end of the world ...
It is move to Houston or lose your job. Just wait another 3-6 months and many of those who moved will be laid off. I have seen this happen many times over many years with many companies. I will be waiting for the layoff announcement later this year.
Why do a study? We are all numbers. Xto has allot of contractors. Cut them. Move key employees. Let the rest of us uproot our families or face the 45 dollar crude world.

Won't XTO/Exxon lose a lot of its talent when asking them to uproot and move?
Do they do studies on who is willing to move before they do these kinds of things?
Its not as though Exxon is in financial crisis and needs to scrape to find any cost cutting possible.
