Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I was fired today here is some advice to SHC on how to conduct a layoff

  1. Have leaders at the top deliver the news to us. Do not hide behind an email. I would respect you more. And I don't necessarily mean Eddie, any leader would have been good

  2. Have leadership provide us with words of encouragement or support or anything to those being laid off or to those survivors who are being left behind, today I saw nothing and heard from no one, complete silence (where were the cheerleaders?)

  3. Do not herd those who have been laid off into a large room to be processed like animals it was a very shameful/undignified experience

Thanks

When you say "Do not hide behind an email", did you find out through email or was it some type of script they were reading?

I actually got 1 and 2 pretty good especially for being a low level pawn. But completely agree with 3... they didnt even get my paperwork printed! I have to get a phone call and get it overnighted to me... so ridiculous.

What severance package was offered? As someone who made it this round i'm sure the next round is right around the corner.

The departure from Sears is actually a promotion. Any Sears employee who is no longer with the Company, regardless of the way their departure occurred, should be be proud of the accomplishment. Further, they should receive a suitable-for-framing plaque and gold watch -- but not directly from Sears or China. (Mongolia, maybe, or Aleppo).

Yes, there's life after Sears !

1zfv, I think they were just hoping in vain to make the process s--- less for their surviving coworkers when it inevitably happens again.

Does not seem like it now but it is a blessing. Take some time, enjoy life and then get back into the workforce. Sorry for what you have been put through

I don't know the right words but you have my condolences. I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm unsurprised that this was handled poorly.

you're gone - why worry about it - many other companies handle it gracefully, obviously Sears is still in the nursery trying to learn the ropes
