Added FYI: New York magazine noted that Loeb's "preferred strategy" is to buy into troubled companies, replace inefficient management, and return the companies to profitability, which "is the key to his success."[3] from wikipedia

Hon would lose a lot of prestige if it dumped Aerospace and have a lot less revenue and margin. Less media and press for the leaders if it a smaller company and don't think their egos would like that.

Aww come on.. Cote & the Board have tried to sell the division off on other occasions. It makes sense to part ways with the unit. A ton of capital has been put in through "seed planting" in other regions, and it will take several years to reap the return. Sell it off!

It's going to take the finance people in India a while to calculate which will net the senior idiots at HON more money; spin off or continue to run the business straight into the ground. Once that is done, the decision will be made. The only deciding factor is how much money is there now VS continuing to milk every last few cent of value then discarding aero like an empty oyster shell.
