Thread regarding Sears layoffs

elimination of operations zone supervisor in Sears stores

Our operations zone supervisor was told this week that her position is being eliminated next week, and job will now be classified as backroom lead,at a pay cut of course, but probably still being expected to do the same job as before.

Is this happening in other stores? We are down to only a store manager, hard lines and softlines zone supervisors and jewelry lead and now a back room lead to run the store.

Also we are one of the unfortunate stores to be part of the 30 stores doing the summer blowout sale, any stores not aware of this promotion, be thankful because it should be called summer bust sale, sales thus week were the worst I have seen it all season, and we still have until June 24 the to go.

Softlines MCA... we had two leads, neither have/had really been with us all that long and started around the same time, but just lost one of them. (Awesome lady, will miss working with her and regret missing the chance to friend her on FB or something.) They got ride of the guy over in shoes too. Another manger (I think operations manger?) was cut a few weeks or so ago.

I feel badly for those my store has lost. As often as I read about stores with crappy managers, etc, somehow mine is largely made up of pretty great folks. During April when many of us didn't even get hours, I later heard that the guy from shoes even chose to use some of his vacation time so that others could have the hours. :( I hate to lose great people like this.

Ok so the store I'm at is bad manager and ASM softies are making it so hard on full tmers and leads to try to make them quit.3 full timers and 1 lead quit cause they were being picked on so bad they just quit.other lead is afraid to talk to anyone because she might loose her job if she talked to anyone.mamages just sit in office and eat make leads get all calls and approvals.last 2 store managers have been worth nothing .leads have gone to District Managers and Hr.but worthless to .its all about politics and who can kiss but the best...and that's the way it's been for the last 14 years at sears.they don't promote u for what u know. Or how of a good worker u are..or who knows there job...

Pension buyout offers have been sent out each year to the pensioners for a long time. Nothing new there.

In my experience, the salaried managers are the biggest waste of payroll. We have been through an absolute parade of store managers and ASMs in the last few years, and they have mostly been useless. They all just sit in the back office, doing approvals remotely. It's the hourly managers (leads) who are the hardest workers. They do literally everything. And they're the ones whose positions usually get cut.

we also have just lost our FW lead and one of our Softline leads as well... must be a thing with sears but our GM hides in his office most evryday after the morning meeting... he rarely ever is in a cac and forget about him answering the store phone he is a waste of payroll....

OP mentioned that sales are way down of late and I would have to agree as well. Traffic during and since Memorial Day has got to be down 1/3 or more compared to last year and we are supposedly one of the profitable locations.

Anyone else notice this trend getting worse the past few weeks?

In my store the Manger is alwsys grandstanding always always always

Running at the mouth like she is the queen of the

Philly streets, she hides in her office always on her phone , in complete denial that the store and company is failing . The can not hire because who wants to work for a failing company. They only get the people that can not go anywhere else . The doors are held open with trash cans . Store is always a mess but my Manger always tells you how great she . I worked my whole life in retail was once a Manger before my store closed . I have never seen anything like this. It's because of management like her is why this is happening. The company is so bad they just keep failing laying off store level leads thinking that is going to save money .?how about knocking off the top down , how about having less hr people how about less District people and getting rid of this horrendous management that is in the stores

Under $9 million in sales and you'll have hourly zone supervisors instead of ASMs. From $9 mil to $11 mil you will still have salaries ASMs but will not have an Operations ASMs.

I don't think my Sears store has an operations zone supervisor. We have a store manager, an operations manager, a softlines manager, a hard lines manager, a footwear lead, a backroom lead, a jewelry lead, a softlines lead, a CAC lead, an accessories lead and a Lands' End lead. The might be another lead I'm missing too.

OP its hard to say only the top people would know exactly whats going to happen. In my store 2 positions were just eliminated (FW lead and Softline lead). What I find plain ridiculous we still have 3 managers and a Store manager (our store manager being useless he does nothing!). The managers as everyone knows like to hide in the back rarily come up, but now with this cuts they have to s tart coming out more.
