There was a contest for credit and the stores won a breakroom makeover, up to $2000.00. The money can only be spent on the breakroom, so no luncheons, gift cards for associates, prizes, etc.--in other words, no real benefits for associates.
The money has to be spent by August 1st if I remember correctly.
Anyone think this is a gimmick? It's like corporate knows that most stores already have what they need for the breakroom, so they won't end up paying out much because there isn't a need for anything or if something is needed, it's going to exceed the "winnings".
What does a breakroom need that it doesn't already have that can be bought with the "winnings"? And what could be purchased with $2000 or less? Not much. Commercial grade furniture is expensive.
Our store won this stupid "contest" and we most likely won't use the money because we don't need anything in our breakroom that we don't already have: tables, chairs, fridge, microwave, TV.
Oh, we do need a sink, but we don't have the plumbing for it anywhere near the breakroom, so that would cost at least $5k to get it installed, and it would be an impractical project as the plumbing is under a concrete slab.
Why don't they put their money where their mouth is and actually do something that will benefit associates?
