Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

WTF is going on?!

Forced headcount reductions everywhere! From different teams all over the world! Management does not say a word!!!! Does anyone know what is the logic behind it? I mean what is being taken into consideration when the decision is made who will be fired? I thought, only lrc's were at risk but it does not seem to be the case. Also I see really hard workers, some real key members being fired - but some lazy, stupid a**holes stay. So are only high relative contributors not at risk and anyone else can be fired now anywhere in the world in any teams? Any more info?

Not surprised. Mgmnt never told a word. Have you been aware of that 2000+ people were sent home last year?

Probably not, as it hasn't been communicated at all. Same now.

It's not unusual for high relative contributors to be let go while other workers (some good, some OK, some bad) are kept on. I've actually seen a person receive their bonus for their contribution (at a time when not everyone got a bonus) and then get their layoff notification the next day. It's not common but it's not all that rare, and people who have been around for a while are not shocked by this.

When it happens, it certainly feels like a kick in the teeth. If severance is being paid now, being laid off now could be seen as a gift in comparison to being laid off later with no severance.

But here's the thing - why is anyone sticking around a company that is obviously doomed and whose products are looking increasingly lame as time goes on? There are probably a few good reasons, e.g. hoping to get that severance package, but if someone hasn't started looking around for better employment at this point, you have to wonder whether they just feel unable to find work anywhere else.

I was there for a long long time and saw the products and quality declining as the directions from the executives and decisions on product investments got stupider and stupider. Eventually I had seen enough and it was pretty easy to get a better job with a company with a brighter future. If I can do it, anyone can do it. You have to ask yourself what is gained by staying the course.

To the tin-hat wearing idiot talking about a stealth recession. Please restrict your comments to topics relevant to Avaya. There are many other places where lunatics like yourself can rant and rave about about an imaginary financial collapse.

Regarding the layoffs, this is what you get when incompetent, greedy, and unethical people are put in charge. The comment about insiders is absolutely true. There are insiders who are in a protected class. Everyone else is at risk. There will be continual reductions in order to meet the financial requirements dictated by the creditors. Think about it... if you are a creditor and the company wants you to accept their debt restructuring proposal, you, as a creditor, would want to know that your investment is safe and will deliver sufficient returns. So, Avaya is promising to reduce costs and maintain a certain EBITDA in exchange for the creditors accepting their restructuring plan. With sales falling, they only option is to reduce costs which means that people will go. It's inevitable. Anyone who believes that sometime in June, Avaya will emerge from bankruptcy with everything intact is simply delusional. The reality is that there will be at LEAST a 25% reduction of people and unless you are on the inside, you are doomed.

The wrong people are being fired because they aren't on the inside. I'd explain it but you simply wouldn't believe me, so I'll hold my tongue.

Suffice to say, there is no desire to save the company. They know the company is finished, as are all companies.

By summer, you're going to see things you simply will not believe.

Look around. Not just there, happening everywhere.

We're in a stealth recession. Media, government, and corporations trying to hide it until they're ready.

By summer the nation will be in a situation that will make 2008 look like a walk in the park.
