Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Avaya forged a sword they were unable to wield.

Most Avaya sales people and probably also most of management are most probably unable to grasp what their R&D people in networking have been creating. Let's just hope that the Buyer of networking knows how to use and market it instead of stomping on it in order to squeeze some more cash out of it and letting it die.

Avaya sales are still selling spanning-tree based networks out there! Thats sad.

I'm sorry to see the networking team go. I have worked with them since the Nortel days. The Nortel team was so strong it was real blow to the telecommunications world when the company went bankrupt. I'm glad Avaya is not flowing in those footsteps.

That's funny that you think Nortel had the marketing nailed on Networking. The results they achieved on networking do not reflect that. Sadly the customer base learn Cisco accreditations to get jobs and then the majority of IT people are not willing to risk moving outside of there comfort zone. A great product will sit better in a focus networking brand. Avaya will still sell this as an OEM and most importantly focus on our core markets where we are placed 1st or 2nd.

That point about letting the sales and marketing go is unfortunately all too true. Saying that we sell spanning tree based networks though is hogwash. We push SMLT. Kinda getting tired of trolls here posting sh--. Especially the ones who've never stood in front of a customer to sell something.

When Avaya initially acquired Nortel, they also acquired the sales and marketing expertise necessary to properly sell the networking product. Unfortunately, in a move to "save money", they let them all go. They never bothered to rebuild that sales/marketing team, and instead simply handed that responsibility over to existing teams with no exposure or background regarding the product they were expect to sell. And years later, here we are ...
