"Extreme Networks To Acquire Brocade's Data Center Networking Business ... Brocade's data center networking business will be sold to Extreme for $55 million in cash"

Looks like they are spending their cash elsewhere now. Wonder how that affects the potential Networking acquisition ... how much "dry powder" they have remaining, and how they are positioned going forward. Cash poor is not a good position to find oneself ...

I believe we are in the 'quiet period' now that Extreme has been declared the stalking horse bidder. I would not expect to see any news, updates, etc, for the next couple of weeks. It's pretty unlikely there will be other bidders, but if there are, they would not be allowed to bid until this "quiet period" ends anyhow.

Extreme wants the portfolio, not the people. It's that simple. They will fill-in a few missing gaps in their current product lineup, thereby making themselves an attractive target for acquisition by a much larger company, with much deeper pockets. That's how executives keep get rich(er) ... execute on a short-term get-rich-quick strategy, then move on. No one's in this business for the business ....

small piece of investment in the software and you could do very profitable things. The problem is the dinosaurs who run Networking have there heads stuck in Nortel, they never embraced Avaya, always worked in a silo, did there own thing. If you get those guys out then good things happen.

Extreme will quickly move to eliminate most of the people they bring over. The only way to make this a profitable transaction for them is to reduce costs below the revenue it produces. Think about it - except for the technology and customer base, there is nothing that Extreme needs from Avaya, so everyone other than a few SMEs will be eliminated.

Sadly Avaya Networking is 0.6% of market share and too small for any of the companies mentioned. They will be bought by someone that thinks they can make money on $200M of revenue per year. Extreme seems to think they can make it work by milking existing Avaya product, and slowly converting the customers to their purple products.

Arista just coz someone on this forum wanted our "Switching/ R&D" to be a part of a company which "excites" FB and Google. Dont even remotely think they are going to even participate

Arista. Haha. Why? More likely Extreme will prevail.

FB and Google. Lol. Such is the level that people here dont even know that they've built their own network customizing open source SDN. Unless Arista buys us, just hope we go to a respectable Enterprise networking player.
