Wow, just heard a rumor from several of my long time friends at IBM that they are looking to sell off the Power business and AMD is in talks. With the recent senior management shuffle, theres been lots of talks on how they plan to hide the massive revenue loses for the last several quarters and selling Power makes sense now.

Really - AMD? That is ridiculous. AMD is barely surviving. They need these new desktop & server chips to be wildly successful to survive. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if AMD wasn't talking about joining the openpower initiative to join forces against Intel but also take advantage of some of its super fast technology - what do they call that one thing - open CAPI? AMD should add pcie4 & open CAPI as an advantage over Intel and their hi-speed networking mistake using omnipath.
Hardly true as this sounds like competitive FUD.
If you assume they are just selling the Power CPU IP to AMD, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Kind of strange that AMD would want the Power IP as they are basically just buying the right to license back the Power IP to IBM. I guess they may think they will be able to sell it to some third party for something.
Yeah I heard this too! Ever since IBM sold the Power Chip business to Global Foundries, we've wondered how they'd get profitable again and now that AMD is releasing their latest Ryzen and Naples CPUs, all being manufactured by Global Foundries, seems like a great way to combine forces!
