WLY is a foreign trade zone, so equipment stored within the fence (including the parking lot) is taxed at almost nothing. That is why this facility will not close...not to mention the machine investments.
What's going on with all the equipment doing in the front parking lot of the old Shaffer shop? Anyone know what going on around that shop?
Sounds like a manager that knows what is going on and is foreboding why. Going to be a rough ride.
Why is it ignorant or financially impossible? WLY is an ancient facility that has been run by the same folks for over 40 years. The fight real progress and change and ignore the fluff changes that won't impact the bottom line. They ignored the land business for over 40 years and handed it over to Cameron and then performed horribly for the offshore market delivering units months and even years late as well as with performance problems. There is no offshore market anymore. WLY is a microcosm of the hole NOV is trying to dig out of. They allowed the genius of mergers and acquisitions to drive up business without adequately solving the underlying cancer within the organizations and facilities. They ignored land markets for decades because offshore projects made a bunch of money for them at the time. Now they are searching for revenue streams from the very customers they ignored and treated horribly. Bottom line: Expensive facility, little to no orders and costs more to run than it can make up in revenue. Perhaps a better idea to shut it down and move necessary equipment for repairs to Bammel or 529
