Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Get over it.

IBM was once a great company of which to be apart. When I grew up and was in 1st grade we all stood up and spoke about where our father's worked. Ninety-five percent of my class said their father's worked for IBM... I said mine was a real estate broker. This was in Almaden, CA and the start of an incredible technological boom.

I joined Big Blue in '81 as an assistant to a secretary. Back then you joined to be apart of a company for life. I eventually retired as an executive but it came with many sacrifices. I feel very little sympathy for those who have endured fifteen years of slavery with top salaries and bennies who are now complaining. Did you not do due diligence when agreeing to join a company which no longer valued seasoned employees? Get over it.

I, unfortunately, sat in first class next to an arrogant SOB on my way to Ft. Myers who brought up on his computer his IBM Lotus Notes. Then he proceeded to bring up one IBM doc after another before he ordered his fifth whiskey. I finally introduced myself and he could have cared less... Yet he was very interested in our flight attendant.

He worked for GBS and said he, single highhandedly resigned the Hertz account. Bravo I said. Then I asked about the terms and he said he could not divulge them and then questioned my credentials until I pulled out my business card, then he shut up. He was an a--. These newbies are the ones I hope are getting cut. I actually told him not to hang his star on IBM and he looked at me like I was an idiot. Good luck Hertz GBS boy. We will all probably be reading your sob story here soon as well.

New Flash, IBM was kicked out of Hertz, Their blue$hit(mix) never worked. Millions blown and nothing to show for it. Typical IBM, all marketing and no real results.

Looking at the grammar and typos in the post, this person was a pretty crappy secretary.

Uuhhhmmmm. What is the point of the original rambling post? You had a bad encounter with another IBMer during a flight to Fort Myers. We all have our good and bad days; just let it roll off your back. Move on and get over it. Geez.

You hired on as an assistant to a Secretary in 1981? And ended your career as an IBM Executive? What the F---? I have never heard of a Secretary needing and assistant... Back in the day you hired on for life with a company, again what the F---?... Look dummy, even back in 1981 ( Oh BTW, I was around for the 80's ) no one hired on for life... Folks with skills, non-exec types, migrated from company to company to make more money... Only lazy a-- assistants to a Secretary hired on for life, and stayed in a job from 1981 until retirement and got the Executive title... I am guessing you were an Executive Assistant, possibly to the drunk guy on the plane, whom you wanted to sleep with and he brushed of your advances...

IBM does not let anyone fly first class, so this little diddy sounds like a little dream you had... So go back to bed...
